Read Simon Stahlenhag’s The Electric State a lil while ago. Tell me we aren’t headed towards being a broken nation of zombies with these data centers eventually morphing into sources of VR that will mentally cook the minds of the citizens. The social media addiction is the beginning. If AI supposedly takes over, what use are you? Just think about it…every day, our formerly comfortable way of life deteriorates through greed, corruption, and attention addiction. Corporations will appease and control the public and distract from them robbing you by inventing a VR “getaway” to release you from dealing with your troubles. These images are from the book…wouldn’t be surprised if this was America in 10 years…

1. The reporting on this is done purposefully.

- announcement that the project will use more power than the state can provide
- predictable public outcry
- mention that the public can be assured their power won't be touched, we're building nuclear plants to generate our own...and sell you the extra!
- a good 55% of the knee-jerk responses go oh..ok then and opposition ADHD kicks in, crisis averted, looking for another outrage to focus on

2. What's not mentioned is the number of plants needed to run the proposed project at that scale..and the amount of water needed to cool all of them

3. This is also a clever end-around to secure water rights right up from under the public's noses, without any pushback whatsoever

You know people been talking about water wars for a while, I wonder is this ai shyt the precursor

And the issue with renewables is other countries mainly China manufactures the renewable equipment

I think that’s the main reason why trump administration is downplaying renewables

This is where to look for jobs. Data centres aren't going anywhere. Get your networking caps on and get involved
Data centers don’t provide many jobs at all. On AVERAGE they provide 30 positions yet eat up more resources than most businesses. They really are nothing but a drain for everyone besides the ultra rich corporations and ceos who own them.

Water bills just went up 10% in my city with another planned 5% increase in 2026
Someone I know blamed it on AI, I guess it's a demand issue. Can the AI centers use unprocessed water? Saltwater?

I’ve heard one of the main reasons chip building is mostly overseas is because of the environmental destruction

I think China JUST started to maybe fix they smog situation or at least improved it

Yeah during Chinas “grind” they did a ton of enviornmental damage where yoh can say now they are in a somewhat correction period even if its political PR

This

The jobs argument is a complete myth.
Yep. The bulk of jobs created are temporary and short term during the initial construction. Once done, you just have a huge resource hog sucking up all your electricity and water and local residents are left paying higher and higher prices for both over time . Not to mention the pollution.

This is why these rich pricks were buying up water rights, because at this rate they imagine it will be a more scarce resource due to their activities while not giving a damn how it impacts everyone else.
