doesn't surprise me at all.
i remember from a "fun fact" from my labor class that there were multiple experiments where white dudes with a drug distribution felony on their record were more likely to get a job than a black man with no criminal record and the EXACT same resume otherwise. employment in america is fukked up especially in private industry. it's why i've chosen to work for the government, which is also fukked up, but not as bad.

Heard about this study on the radio this morning, and there were no surprises to be had. 
One thing that's often overlooked about wealth retention is that if you're black, even if you make decent money you often have to spend a lot of it supporting your relatives. As opposed to white families where wealth tends to flow the other way and they tend to leave their kids houses/stocks/whatever.

I was staring at this when I woke up, kind of contemplating my life, and lives of others I know, as the little dots moved up and down. Those massive blocks just moving right into poverty, or falling below was a surreal visual. The relentlessness was unnerving.

I know a sweet, old white lady. She just moved into one of the facilities that I work for. Her house is worth $450,000, she has over $400,000 in cds and investments, and has a meager $90,000 in cash available.
That’s enough anecdotal stories for one morning.
I knew this was the case, but I did not think the disparity was this stark. When you are a black boy, your margin of error is very low in this country. A white kid and black kid may make the same mistake, as male teenagers and young adults are prone to do, but the black kid will suffer much tougher consequences because of the social order in this country.
A white boy may drop out of college, work as a Barista and find a relatively safe community of other slackers until he eventually gets his shyt together. A black boy on the other hand drops out of the same college, starts hanging with his cousins from the hood and their people and finds himself arrested for some bullshyt charges which completely knocks him off the path that he was on.

It’s the Steve Bannon vision. Unions went for Clinton. But the truth is white, male union members went for the president. Evangelicals think a certain way about immigration. But when you talk about white evangelicals you get a certain picture.
Steve wants to make Silicon Valley more American. Then you remember Steve believes blacks are animals. If you’re a black person in America and you believe it’s a class issue, you’re probably one of those people surprised by the Cambridge story.

Lot of the wealth is in real estate. Many white folks die and the kids end up inheriting a paid off home. Black families, even when they saved etc to buy a home were fukked out of it by redlining and other gov't policies. Black children who inherited paid off homes also had to refinance in order to help family etc. Fukked up cycle.
