He had game fab and a few other me on the Album, it's all original music. Like at this point his actual debut is going to be his second album.

I love free music but I think these artists oversaturate the market with all of these original mix tapes. We need to get back to mixtape being freestyles and remixes

With all that being said this is my first time ever listening to this dude and I am impressed he is better than I thought
I don't think you get how this whole thing works bro :francis:

Labels disguise these "albums" as mix tapes. Because if they fail/flop, they can fall back on the excuse is "it's only a mixtape"

If a song starts buzzin on the "album/tape" the label can then market it as an album.

NY all day..Da Stead & BK..
I gave this a listen to see if he expanded his content at all... Ironically he addressed that on the 1st song ("You ain't trapping no more, stop making drug records / you got a daughter bout to come, stop making thug records") but didn't do much of anything to change it. shyt was boring and repetitive tbr, only felt a few songs:

It Was Written
Can't Ignore
Don't Shoot
Keisha

And the only reason I felt Can't Ignore was 2Chainz's verse. Keisha was cool if only to hear what he would do with a storytelling track but like another poster said the story itself was drawn out with no pay-off. The story literally amounted to him calling his folks in Queens to do a background check on a bytch who ends up jacking him when he's vulnerable anyway :mjlol:

Don't Shoot had the best concept on the album by far, it was cool how he used a pitch shift to represent him growing up and his growing hate for the police, it was literally the only standout song on here that stood out because of what Dave East did with it. It Was Written had a great beat and East wasn't bad on it but he didn't make anything that memorable either which is really the problem with the whole album. Don't Shoot is the only song I'm gonna remember from this project period :yeshrug:
Not tryna knock ur opinion or nothin. But why can't a street rapper just make a street album?. There's different artists for different reasons. When it comes to east coast artists. Especially NY. Theyre faced with these ridiculous standards. They have to have the best delivery. Best lyrics. Best storytelling ability. Best wordplay. Best beats. Etc etc. Or they wack. nikkas can't just be taken for who they are and judged accordingly.

I dig what you're saying but my post wasn't really about critiquing his craft, it's more about the lack of standout tracks/concepts/hooks/etc. on the album. A big part of standing out imo is being original and this album definitely lacked originality across the board.

I think a lot of that feedback has to do with people wanting to hear music that surprises them either on the conceptual level or the presentation/delivery level. For better or worse East is playing it very safe with his music conceptually... His delivery is good but it's also pretty rigid. The way he raps on one track is pretty much the way he raps on all of them... That combined with how safe he plays it with the content rarely deviating from being Cam'ron-lite (a fly Harlem pusher albeit with less personality and humor than Cam'Ron) is what makes it become repetitive.

I guess, but how is there any real anticipation for a project if you get one twice a year from them? To me this is why there hasn't been a classic album in years, nothing feels special anymore nothing with stands the test of time because it doesn't have to.

@Ronnie Lott but that doesn't make sense for a artist like drake who is going to sell regardless. He put out like 3 project since last year. Views wasn't gay good because he gave all of his good songs away for IMO. That should have been the mixtape

And don't get me started on future I don't know if he even has any albums
