Just wanted to add I really like this project, this is the way a solid/very good mixtape/album should sound, cohesive strong/above average production and content, lose the skits, but other then that, it's exemplary. Not a perfect project, by any means, but this is a very good blueprint for how to present your music. Better then any of Fab's last few projects, a lot of rappers could learn from something like this, guys trying to get on, and the older generation, (Beanie Sigel).
On a personal level, I really fukk with Easts content and message, Im like 2 years older then him, and I feel, like how the best of rappers will, he's rapping most of my life, for me. I like he's not over the top, and grounded more often then not, I like that a good amount of the tracks had positive content, though it can feel a little cliche at times, he feels much more natural with the message tracks, then, for instance Jada, who had 18 tracks of decadence and killing, and then one 'message' track.
'The Real Is Back' is probably my favorite, I can still fukk with Sig's music, (though that Uncle/Aunt line is horrific) and that verse says it all....It's a eerie feeling being grown up, and hearing tracks like that, that really touch you, I was that kid in Sig's verse, aside from a few lines, 'popping xanies by the fisful, drink syrup skip school....pants hanging off his ass, ain't been in the bath' (though I obviously showered, there were days waking up at 2:00 gone off that hennessy and valium, I went right to the block, after a blunt)
and now I'm not that kid, and it's been a long time, but the streets don't change, and knowing there's so many like me out there, that won't make it out, is a heavy feeling, but a proud to have not fell off and lost if the way others did.....
Final thoughts, East can have a long career, tighten up the bars, detail the verses, expand and focus on music that will have a lasting appeal....
