Detroit rarely has prospects that pan out that well. Verlander was the last stud. Remember Maybin, Turner, Miller, etc.? Jackson's an extremely streaky CF and Smyly is a 4-5 starter. This is a great deal for Detroit.
rays did fine. smyly is quality, will get better, and is under control til 2019. just because they gave up the big name doesnt mean they got shyt back. toss in franklin and adams and its a perfectly reasonable haul in return. trades can be good for both teams. tigers can pay price 20 million, and the rays get cheap young players, 2 of whom can produce at the major league level right now. both teams got what they wanted

Names like Shelby miller and taveras were being mentioned and they end up getting back a light hitter and middle of the rotation starter
you have no idea if they were actually offered. just because their name was mentioned doesnt mean shyt. a middle of the rotation young starter with the potential to get better and under cheap team control til 2019 is exactly what the rays like. tigers get price for one and a half years at 20 million. thats what they wanted. both teams did fine
