That trade would’ve made them the new orlens rockets. Scola Martin and dragon all played for Houston . They weren’t moving needle which is why morey was giving them up. We were an average team with that core. They weren’t stars. They weren’t even all stars. No winning, no drawing, no youth, no potential, no competing, NO FUTURE. I know this cuz they were playing for my fukking team!!! Odom was old too. Kevin Martin wasn’t the center piece of the Harden trade. The draft pick and Lamb was. If he was the centerpiece then why did OKC just let him walk after one season instead of trying to resign him? The Pelicans could have let CP3 walk and signed comparable players in free agency. There was no value in the Lakers offer. They were just going to be unloading money from the Lakers and Rockets books.
The best asset was the #1 pick from Minny. Most people thought it would be top 3 at the time. It ended up falling lower and the Pelicans wasted the pick anyway but they did a full rebuild and were in the playoffs within a few years.

When you trade your best player like the Hornets did you are going into rebuilding mode. The Clippers package was better for rebuilding than the Lakers was

the clips deal might've been a little better (its arguable) but at the end of the day the lakers trade was approved. The deal was not nixed in good faith and it had a snowball effect on a lot of careers after that.
