Dc GoGo music, a very influential strand of Funk and the deliverer of "Bounce" to modern music

I never could get into GoGo unless it was a Hurby Luvbug produced song back when he added a lot of GoGo flavor to his beats

Just GoGo by itself I wasn't feeling it. I remember riding through D.C. In the late 80's/early 90's with family looking for a good radio station to jam.... all I heard was constant GoGo.
I lliterally had the face.


Now that I'm older I wanna give it another chance. Any suggestions?

It was more GoGo being played on the local urban stations out here compared to nowadays where you only hear it during certain DJ rotation blocks on certain days. Plus, DC wasn’t really into Hip Hop at the time and the tensions/rivalry between DC and NYC during that time period due to drug turf and kingpin wars didn’t make it any better either.

I co-sign all this. Hell when I got to DC you only really heard go go on the radio. I would go to "rap" shows and the go go acts would be the only acts getting ANY crowd participation

Yeah I was only fukking with the more street flavored Go Go but even at clubs that shyt used to be LIT and yeah Jay did Jack them. I heard from the streets that he ended up giving them some dough though

Overnight Scenario was the very first GoGo joint that I was consciously aware of as a really young moe back then. I’m talking about being on the cheese bus on my way to and from William Beanes Elementary in grimy ass Suitland not too far from the now-gone Homer Ave projects crankin to Overnight Scenario with kids from kindergarten to 4th grade in acapalla beating on the seats and windows and shyt We were serious asf lol.










We need to bring that feeling back into GoGo It’s crazy how everybody and their mama tryna be a rapper nowadays out here. Not saying I don’t like nor support DMV Hip Hop but it would be nice if we could keep the spirit of GoGo music and culture alive at the same time and try to experiment with adding GoGo into Rap again; would be interesting hear elements of GoGo on a Trap beat like you do with NO Bounce music. @IllmaticDelta What you think?

Also, Ion like how some of these new young nikkas out here are slandering GoGo and going unchecked Bunch of hypebeast bamma ass nikkas.

I used to live on Homer Ave but yeah I agree with you. I think part of it is that no one wants to take the time to play instruments and shyt. Hell the way rap is now, they not even putting any efforts into the lyrics or anything else
