He really just needs to set up a kickstarter on The Coli for him to write a book...I'd hate for The Coli to go under and all of this to be lost in the ether :wow:

Mad facts! @IllmaticDelta You should save and archive all this information including the other music culture threads just to be on the safe side.

Nah, Chuck Brown said he got the idea to use congos from when he was in a latin band, but it was other black music that inspired him as well
Yrh I mean Op left out latin jazz influence. It should have been included:yeshrug:

Slim you ain’t slick wit it. You made it seemed like Latin Jazz is the main ancestor of GoGo, when in fact it consists of predominantly Black musical elements as well as its main ancestor being Funk music, which is rooted in Southern Black American culture. Not no damn Latinx American culture :usure:

Na. It's roots are in gospel and funk with the congas being taken from latin jazz/salsa to play a groove that came from black gospel music.

See above post. he doesn't play latin jazz or salsa. He just took the congas from it. You can play play gogo music without having congas

:gucci: No, not in the slightest outside a couple of instrumentations.

There was a small Latin Jazz scene in DC. Remember next to NYC, DC & Philly were really the only cities in the East that musicians could get consistent work in.
