This album bangs. Its a different route but thats ok because I beleive the music is supposed to fit the albums concept of the "infromation age" that we are currently in. That KTU/Lupe-lasers sound is whats popular in 2012 and I give kudos to Dead Prez for attempting to mesh the popular sound with their message. Its the ultimate yin yang. In all honesty I think the Black Eyed Peas sound is actually perfect for the concept. They've made music similiar to this before just never as a whole as they have with this album. In all honesty, if mainstream was the aim then u cant be mad....take the song "A New Beginningl", that track sounds like something Z100 or KTU would play. Dead Prez music in mainstream would be one of the best infultrations of Hip Hop. Pro Black music right in the same breath as Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars. Lets be honest....Anyone who remembers Hot 97 before it transformed into a Hip Hop station remembers that station as a dance station. k7, Lil Suzy, Sagat (Funk Dat!), Aly Us (Follow Me) C&C Music factory and KLF were signatures on Hot 97. House music, dance and Freestyle is what Hot 97 raised NYC on in the late 80's early 90's. The Jungle Brothers had a very popular song in the late 80's called "I'll house you" that was big on Hot 97, Kiss and BLS so there is no way this can be considered a sellout move if the music is following an old tradition of dance music acknowledgement. I'm not mad at the beats on this album because I like things that go left and challenges the loyalty of the fans. I take this album for what it is...a dope concept record. The only real downside to this album is if they dont push it for mainstream recognition...it would be a waste of a great concept if they fail to do that and the album will be looked at as a low point to die hard DP fans....If they push this album heavy.....it might work. After a few spins I give this album 4 mics.
