Dealing with people you don't respect in the workplace...

So in your opinion, why do you not talk?
For me I just hate small talk and I realize I'm at work. There's a part of me that feels like being a black man I'm expected to act a certain(c00n-ish) way at work to make people feel comfortable around me and I really don't want to do that.

I am pretty sociable with everybody but 2 people. 1 I work with all the time and she doesnt pull her weight and stays scheming as mentioned. The other guy is a teachers pet homo type that is an a$$hole. I have zero tolerance for people like that and just prefer not to be bothered with their bullshyt.

The funny thing is I DO go with the flow....but when I have nothing else to say I stop. I cant force convo for shyt....It was like it was never enough for these mufukkas....they wanted me to be Fonzworth Bentley in that bytch. fukk that.....

exactly. try telling someone in a job interview that you want to show up and work and not socialize. they aren't having it. part of why you are there is to small talk with the rest of the slaves. otherwise you won't fit in and youll get shyt canned. why can't i just show up do my work n go home?

Lol at this thread takin a wrong turn. Yall acting like I said I just sit in the corner on some trenchcoat mafia shyt. I'm prolly one of the more sociable people at my job. Im solely speaking on people u may not like at work for whatever reason that u have to interact with on the daily.

Also, with all those complaints, maybe you are not very charming or they feel you are a lame. This the x-factor no amount of small talk can overcome. I've met hard-working lames who never thought they were lames, but it is usually career suicide being swagless.

Yeah, I think it was because of a lack of charm (I only really got in good with a couple of people at this particular gig). It's not like I'm a complete square, but I just didn't really care for that job from the get-go. Also, people expect you to always be all dapper and over enthusiastic about shyt. I'm just not that type of dude....

And it's not even that I don't want to be bothered with anyone. It just gets annoying when people try and force me to conform. You would think people would be more worried about your actual job performance....

I usually just try and avoid their asses. Luckily I haven't had any gigs where I had to be around said people for too long, if at all...

Lately i decided to go back to how i used to be at work. Which was basically a hi bye small talk type chat kind of cat. I tried that whole friendly guy openly converse shyt and decided i wasn't feelin how comfortable some people got. Today this chic was tryna' talk out loud on some "i saw you drive in to work, actually stacey saw you drive in..ect" thinking it would start up a conversation. But i acted like i ain't even hear her and kept working. fukk outa here with this fake friendly bullshyt

Same. At one of my jobs I tried to be that nice and open guy ... now I'm really like fukk that. People really do get too comfortable and take liberties with what they say/how they treat you.
