Man screw Ed O'Bannon, all I know is when I was in college EVERY OU player would be lined up alongside everyone else outside Gamestop waiting for the new NCAA videogame to release. These dudes weren't concerned about getting paid to be in a videogame. They were elated to see themselves in a videogame.

Not saying they would've turned down a payment or don't deserve it and not that I never heard other complaints(it was usually from players who never even saw the field), but nobody ever complained about being in a video game

It is illegal for a company to profit off the use of a person's image without offering said person compensation. Your argument for players eschewing from payment for appearing in EA's NCAA series is like saying the Old Spice mascot guy should have been happy enough to star in an Old Spice commercial without payment. I won't blame anyone for taking money for their own images like I won't pay any NFL player for his compensation. EA can pay the players and make its game, just like Old Spice can pay the mascot guy and make its commercials. If EA won't then the onus is on EA, not the players.

something needs to change

IMO, the compromise they need to reach is allowing these dudes to make as much money as they can, that doesnt come from the schools. that means they can sign all the fukkin jerseys they want, and make money off being used in the videogames.

you cant pay kids to play, thats just not right. but stopping them from making money off of their own names, when so much is being made at the top, is disgusting

It's right to play employees for their rpdouction in every other multi billion industries, why not college football?

I'm done w/ this discussion; simply b/c I've refuted EVERY point you've made and you're down to arguing in circles for the sake of arguing.

Have a good night.

Its funny how the coli is so militant and anyone who is not is a c00n, but as soon as a brother tries to prevent the these conglomerates from exploiting these young brothers, all of a sudden he's a piece of shyt cause yall can't get yall funky ass NCAA game.......

If you can't sacrifice a video game for the financial betterment of the community, why should anyone take your opinions seriously on any other black issues....?
:wow:

Big ups for Ed and the rest for going after the NCAA. Yeah it may be cool at 18 or 19 to play as yourself on videogames and to see your jersey and image sold while you are in college. But as you get older you start to realize that major money was made off of you and you didn't see a dime of it. So these ex and current players are doing the right thing and it seems to me like all they want is there piece of the pie too.

Calipari makes 8 million a year, but you can't pay players because "it just isn't right"

Repeat what you just said out loud and see how stupid it sounds

Saying players shouldn't be paid because the NCAA game will be discontinued is like saying slaves shouldn't be freed because cotton prices might go up. If the NCAA game is discontinued, a person can always buy Madden. Similarly, if the price of cotton goes up, a person can always buy nylon. If somebody doesn't want to buy nylon or play Madden, they're shyt out of luck.

How is this helping the "community"?

They're likely NEVER gonna make another game again due to this. So there will be a one-time payment of like $4,000, and nothing ever again. How's that lil $4,000 gonna help the "community"?

It's not clear whether the outcome from this deal will end at 4000 dollars. But to play devil's advocate, even if compensation in this case ends at 4000$, the precedent will have be set for paying players for their image. That precedent is worth enough all on its own, like the law punishing a thief one time has since protected people from thieves ever since. Additionally, the precedent will put extra pressure--legal or otherwise--on the NCAA to pay players, which means a gaggle of hood nikkas will have a better chance of receiving the dollars they are due from the college football slave authority.

Understandably most everyone is cheering against the NCAA and saying they want massive change in the system and whatnot. But I guarantee once that change does come (whether it be paying athletes or the conferences breaking off on their own) most spectators/fans are going to hate what becomes of college sports after that.

And I'm saying that as someone who understands it's wrong that these kids aren't being paid. But the overall product is gonna suffer as a result when this major change to system everyone wants does actually happen.

This concern has no bearing on whether players should be paid, like whether my boss would have a better product if all her employees were slaves fearful of not producing superior work, but young and developing players are paid all over the world without a major or significant drop in quality.
