Grimes has the strokeof a perennial 40% 3PT and can thrive off-ball. RJ is a below average shooter.
Grimes has the better handle with a quick twitch decisiveness and ability to be low and elusive, hang dribble or hesi into the pull up as opposed to RJ who is usually stiff and upright, loose handler, with a high dribble and struggles to blow by defenders when he can't overpower them with his strength. Grimes footwork and fundamentals are just flat out better it is not debatable.
Not many attempts but Grimes has dare I say more craft around the basket and seemed to have finished every lay-up attempt in traffic we have seen him take meanwhile Barrett is one of the worst finishers in the game.
Grimes was our best perimeter defender last season and is better than RJ on D especially off-ball.
If Grimes tops out as a 3&D player who can attack closeouts and be a secondary-tertiary playmaker that would already bring more impact than whatever the hell it is RJ is bringing to the table.
A Klay or Bane type player>>mini Julius Randle![]()
minuscule sample sizes. this whole take is ass.
you ask grimes to do what rj has had to do for 36 minutes a night you wouldnt have this take at all
grimes doesnt drive to the rim vs nba level competition cause he doesnt have the strength nor bounce to finish consistently. he'd put up them up ugly ass floaters and layups like he did vs tthe blazers in the summer league. I SAW it happen. the reason his development stifled and he had to transfer to houston and play 3 years in college was cause he tried to play the dominant on ball game and he didnt have the physical tools for it. but cause he hit some reverse layups vs dudes that wont see an nba minute, he's better than rj barrett. now tie this in to the fact we had horrendous spacing AND pacing....I dont see what you see man. comparing him to klay is nasty work and you should be ashamed of yourself.
gross ass hyperbole. you'd pray to god he had a 17/5/3 season on 40 percent shooting from 3....you know the type of shyt rj already has done at this level along with good defense 2 years ago...when grimes was in his first year transfered to houston
