I was actually about to make a similar thread. I'm driving from site to site and flipping through different stations. And the thing that stands out the most is how negative all the songs are on the urban stations kill, murder, steal, im cooler than you, infidelity, rich, I'll take your girl, money money money. It's really sad while on other stations I've heard everything from I can't go home with you tonight because I have a woman at home too "be happy life is a journey"
The general tone of most of the music is so much more enthusiastic and upbeat without bashing or being negative of others.

Man I'm listening hits on xm radio and literally every song I've heard in the last 30 minutes has been positive that's crazy I mean it's been stuff like Katy Perry but it's all been positive.
When used right its a cure.
The video is 18 minutes long, the thread was created 19 minutes ago, I highly doubt everyone actually watched it. I just now completed it and I don't agree with everything he said. It wasn't a debate and once again no long term evidence to back up majority of the claims he made. It was a good speech though. Not looking to debate anyone in this thread, most of you have already made up your minds on this topic.

you are right, when utilized correctly hip-hop is an AMAZING tool that can uplift, motivate, inspire and educate.
But why do you think the vast majority of mainstream, easily-accessible rap that's heard by the masses glorifies destruction and negativity?
I heard a line by Future " I can't feel my face, I'm on adderall nauseaus" and thought how da hell is this even remotely responsible to be played on mainstream radio
