Why was the murder rate in the 70s and early 80s way higher than it is now?
The most damning and long-lasting effects of hip-hop culture isn't whether its making people pick up guns or not. What its doing is keeping us (specifically the youth) in a mindstate that continues to benefit white supremacy. Take extreme materialism for instance. Hip-hop culture teaches us to spend, spend, spend and spend some more on white owned products.

White supremacy depends on our materialism. They don't want us to be stingy with our money. They don't want us to think "black first" with our money. If a popular rapper made a song glorifying supporting black businesses, that rapper would promptly be blackballed from hip-hop.

Instead of blaming hip hop itself blame the media outlets for pushing the negativity. A artist should be able to talk about whatever they want.
they should. but why do they have to lie and front?

I mean if it rap is truly a reflection of what they live then they shouldn't have to put on and lie about shyt.
and then others wouldn't have to try and mimic that to fit in, and so on and so on.

Rap is the FAKEST music out there. so those saying it's really just a "reflection of reality" are just fukking lying to themselves and its the lamest narrative in rap going.

No one is killing ppl like that, no one is selling drugs like that, no one is stacking money like that.

if Rappers were really spitting reality raps then they wouldn't be talking all that BS. and fronting with all the fake money and rental cars/houses. tryna impress.

Good listen. People should actually listen.

It can be both, denying musically influence on people how it can drive emotions good or bad is willful ignorance. If you here or see something over and over you begin to think it's normal and acceptable.

The biggest issue with hip hop today is there isn't balance. There have always been ratchet, raunchy songs, thoughout our musical history but there was always balance.

You use to have people who were just telling their story about how life was for them and a lot of the time it was nessesarly glorified it was just what it was. Even talking of getting out of the situation. What can you say now about artist who don't even live that life but still push it? How positive songs get rarely get radio play? It's by design.

I do!!! :mindblown:

We all know who controls the media outlets:mindblown:

We all know how "they" want the black image to look (unintelligent, thug, hypersexual, violent, etc)

I've even made threads saying that "media propaganda" is one of the most effective tools being used against us:

But then I get comments like
Stop blaiming white people.

you are right, when utilized correctly hip-hop is an AMAZING tool that can uplift, motivate, inspire and educate.

But why do you think the vast majority of mainstream, easily-accessible rap that's heard by the masses glorifies destruction and negativity?

I heard a line by Future " I can't feel my face, I'm on adderall nauseaus" and thought how da hell is this even remotely responsible to be played on mainstream radio:why:

Heard a line where he says "my nikka, u caught your first body and I'm proud of you"
:snoop:

I listen to it but I'm in a situation to know better than to take it for more than it is, the youth ain't fortunate enough to say the same

Rappers been lying. Even on Rappers Delight they talk about having a solid gold Benz. Plenty of them don't rhyme about killing or selling drugs so why aren't we praising them instead of talking down on the ones that talk about things you don't like or cant relate to? At the end of the day music is entertainment. We cant blame hip hop for the system of white supremacy, poor schools in our communities, drugs, the break down of the black family, and lack of employment. Those are the things that are plaguing our communities not the music

So if we are blaming the media outlets why blame the artists as well? An artist is just that. Therefore the media outlets should be considered the cancer not the music

When special Ed was rapping about how he go it made and all the BS he was spitting everyone knew it was all in fun and it was clearly hyperbole.

there is a difference between hyperbole and straight up fronting though. And rappers have been doing that forever, and nowadays they are just more ways to show out with social media.

More positive music needs to be praised and bumped. But whenever some rapper comes out that does that shyt nowadays they are clowned or thrown on the back burner cuz all ppl wanna do is get turnt up and act out.

but....lets get back to this point

If rap was REALLY about spitting the realities of life and the community then WHY aren't rappers rapping about this? ^

Again, I'm not blaming hiphop for those issues. All I'm saying is those are ACTUAL REAL LIFE things that ppl go through...everyday. But no one is talking about that shyt. no one wants to talk about the REALITY. Everyone just wants to front and lie.

Hip-hop is now a vessel being used by our oppressors. I've never blamed artists individually as the problem. Of course I use examples. The overall problem is that we simply aren't aware of how "media propaganda" has been a tool used against us and other groups also. Hitler used it against the Jews.

The artists are unaware, ignorant "puppets" with zero knowledge of self and history. This is who they prey on. Of course if you give people from certain environments and mindsets money and fame in exchange to spread mental poison to their own people they'll take it. This is why its so effective.

Good thread and video. Lecrae is one of my favorite rappers and everything he said was facts. :salute:

NWA is what I would define as gangsta rap being proactive.

Hip hop also had a time where it used to be about other rappers saying how much they are better at rap than other rappers too without talking about killings. That used to be a good medium too.

Rakin and Eric B- Paid in Full is my fav rap song of all time.

There is still rappers out right rapping about positive things and realities of life. Sometimes you can even say the ignorant shyt is the reality of those guys.

Really interesting video though. Gonna share this with my friends and bros
