agreed. the souths sound and chicago has taken over the east coast because of the "gritty" nature of street rap.. but I think in the next year or so "lyrical" street rap will make a nice lil comeback and add balance back over here.

Wrong or not, most people listen to more than 1 genre of music. And the honest truth is that, most of the time when people are in a "rap" mood, they're dont wanna listen to J cole, or a joey badass, they wanna listen to Gucci Mane, Chief Keef, 2pac, Future. etc.. When they wanna hear some real shyt they listen to other genres

Lets be real, the only people who listen to rappers liek Kendrick and J cole when they wanna haer "deep" music, are people who dont listen to any other genre outside of rap.

As someone who listens to other genres than rap and heavily associate with those who listen to other genres than rap I can say that they prefer j cole and Kendrick and the Wu over the usual fad rappers like Gucci and weezy and cheef keef.

in fact their main issue with rap is most of the rappers on tv being the same old bland g shyt and not enough variety in the mainstream so when they listen to rap they stick to the underground shyt.

Gotta agree with OP.

Maybe this is just in my circle but most of my nikkas only listen trap/street shyt...Gotti,Gucci,Migos,RHQ,MMG,Scooter,Boosie etc..is what you'll most likely hear getting played in the streets,nobody is checkin for that other shyt outside of some radio cuts.

White people,females and the new generation of HBCU/Hypebeast kids are eating up the Kendrick/Drake/Wale stuff though.
