what did the 2000 ravens do :jbhmm:

didn't butt fumble sanchez go to two straight CC :jbhmm:

what did last years broncos do with payton manning throwing 17 ints :jbhmm:

didn't we see alex smith go to a CC :jbhmm:

how about tom brady's first ring :jbhmm:

or russell wilson's :jbhmm:

lets not act like game managers with elite defenses ain't winning out here breh
big ben and eli were carried by their Ds their first ring too...and ironically peyton too in the offs when the colts won the chip

you don't need an all-pro QB that eats your whole cap to win the Super Bowl

but at the same time you can't win it all if your QB is utter trash

for example i still believe the 49ers were the best team in 2011 by a decent margin but Alex Smith is so useless that they lost a game they had no business losing

I should restate that your QB can't be incompetent past a certain point. As long as they can keep the chains moving and give the defense some rest, that team has a shot. By keeping the chains moving, I don't necessarily mean making consistently difficult throws either, as long as they could get the ball into their best offensive players' hands then they're set.

If you have a game manager for a QB but a WR or two who can put up some serious YAC with a stellar defense, you're a contender.

Niners didn't lose that game because of alex smith. Giants D was on a major roll that year, so it was anyone's game really. Two bad special teams fumbles and a key injury instead of a pick doomed them. At the end of the day, Niners offense scored 3 less points than GB offense and the same points as Pats offense. Giants D shut out Atlanta in the first game too.

That game is a textbook example of two great defenses going at each other and the team that made the least turnovers prevailing.

There's more than one way to win a football game.

But having an elite QB pretty much guarantees you'll always be competitive.

Brady, Rodgers, Ben, Russ, Cam are in the playoffs or close to it every year.

The QB is still the easiest way to sustained success in the league. Vikings defense looks great and Bradford doesn't suck. They've drafted well on defense...

Ive been tryin to tell people this for more than a decade but they still dont get it :mjlol:

broncos, eagles and vikings are last undefeated teams; they are fielding great defenses while starting a rookie (wentz), second-year 7th rounder who didnt have a single start, and sam bradford/shaun hill :mjlol:

Yeah you've been saying this for a while

Smith had that one big play to Vernon Davis early in the game and then threw checkdowns and incompletions the rest of the game

Harbaugh knew after the game that you can't win with such a limited QB

The biggest myth in pro sports(or top 10) is that once you pay the QB you can't pay anyone else and that's why they suck:mjlol:

The Giants gave Eli manning an 85 million dollar extension last year and went on an all time spending spree this offseason.

The saints gave Drew Brees 100 mill in 2012 then gave Jimmy Graham the largest deal ever given to TE, and Jarius Byrd the largest ever given to a safety

The Falcons signed Matt Ryan to a 100 million dollar deal in 2013 then signed the number one center and Sanu to a 5 year deal in free agency.

Peyton got a 96 million dollar deal for Denver and they went stupid in free agency in 2014. It worked out for them in 2015 though with the SB win

Teams are garbage because their drafts have been horrible for years, not because of the salary of the QBs.

The thing is, with more and more shytty QBs in the league having a great defense sort of balances it out. That's why Panthers ain't shyt this year. It wasn't cam last year(if y'all still don't understand that you're blind), it was THE DEFENSE being flat out amazing. That's not to say Cam wasn't balling out btw, it's to say defense is what makes great teams, not just having an elite QB.

It certainly wasn't Peyton last year, it was the defense.

Rivers/Brees/Luck/Cam can't do shyt when their teams give up 30+ points on a regular basis.

Chiefs had been doing good these past few years even with Alex Smith being the ultimate game manager and nothing else. Niners fell apart when their defense did. Steelers stopped winning titles when their defense stopped being elite(even with their super offense). Ravens won't do shyt with Flacco without an elite defense. This list is endless.

You can win with an average QB(as long as he isn't turning it over nonstop like Fitz), you'll find it damn near impossible to win a title without a good-great defense, which is what we saw most of Peyton and Marino's careers.

And hopefully the defensive resurgence brings back the running backs too because fukk these 3 hour long games that don't end because incompletions don't keep the clock moving.

That can work both ways. Cam won MVP and they were the highest scoring offense. That could have helped the defense since the defense could pass rush all the time since they had the lead and teams had to pass to catch up. Panthers D was a top 5 last year, but Cam and that high powered offense helped the defense.

Pretty much. The Saints have just drafted terribly and gave out big contracts to the wrong guys. The Jarius Byrd contract is a lot worse than Brees'

Defense wins championships is one of the biggest cliches in the sport. This ain't new.

It's just a QB is a single player, so it's the easiest, surest way to keep you competitive for a long period of time.
