Defer to second half, why is this an option on the coin toss?

In the history of football has any team won the toss and didn't elect to receiver the opening or second half kickoff?

Seems this rule was designed to fukk dumb captains. I think I remember our high school team losing the toss, the other team defering and our dumb captain electing to kick :snoop: and thus we didn't get the opening or second half kickoff. That dumbass ended up playing for UT if that tells you anything (Thanks and Gig'em :lolbron:)

What a useless rule.

:what: I always thought the team that didn't get the ball in the first half gets it in the second half no matter what. Seems like your team just got some refs that don't know wtf they;e doing

Im not really unerstanding whats going on. Is it saying that before the 2nd half the two captains have to make a choice again?

Yea I have no idea what this nikka talking bout

The winner of the opening toss can elect to kick, receiver or defer their election to the beginning of the second half. If the winner elects to defer, and the toss loser elects to kick, the loser will not get the ball at either half because the toss winner will elect to receive at the beginning of the second half.

TLDR: Defer is a dumb ass option that shouldnt even be provided.

check texas vs ucla this year, that whole thing was weird

The Longhorns (1-1), coming off a blowout loss to BYU, are facing UCLA at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The Bruins (2-0), won the coin toss and elected to defer to the second half. Texas’ captains proceeded to elect to kick, meaning that UCLA will get the ball to start both halves.

Dawg, if you defer you AUTOMATICALLY get it second half

Please close thread :laff:

No you don't. Deferring just means you let the other team choose whether to kick or receive. If they choose to kick then they're shyt outta luck, because the other captain can then choose to receive at the beginning of the 2nd half
