Defer to second half, why is this an option on the coin toss?

I know what it is. I googled it a while back. I just dont understand why it' s needed. I'm one of those people that believes that laws should be made as NEEDED. Not just because it's someone's job to make laws and we need to keep them busy making laws/rules for the sake of making them.

Also, IMO everybody on he field should be an eligible ball carrier/receiver. All that hierarchy sh!t only makes the game more complicated.

It provides structure, otherwise the game that we know and see today would be totally different.

Idk what else to say. It's like chess. The knight can only move in a L shape, bishop can only move diagonally, pawn vertically forward, etc. This structure is what makes the game of chess, chess and not checkers or some other board game.
I hear you. It's just that i personally dont care for too much structure which is why im more of a basketball or even soccer guy. Too much structure is the main reason why i left the military the first chance i had

unnecessary structure IMO but okay

It's not just about pointless structure. Illegal formations penalties are about making things fair for the defense. Otherwise these coaches who already work ridiculous hours would be up all night coming up with zany formations with recievers coming from weird places.

Sure, whenever it's actually called it's just cuz a guy is 2 feet from where he's supposed to be (giving him no real advantage), so it seems pointless, but if the rule wasn't there, it would actually be exploited.
