Defund the police IS a terrible slogan.

It is, however a great idea....if they could communicate that the goal is to actually divert some funding and responsibility from the police toward other experts when it comes to certain social and health problems that the police are often forced to deal with.

They don’t even want to approach the idea with an open mind , people have literally been trying to shut down any talks leading up to it . Meanwhile they want to change gears and look to tax the rich ?? But where’s that money gonna go to ? Defund is a terrible slogan because whenever someone says it, they have to explain what defund really means (see Sunny Hostin of The View). In politics, if you are explaining a slogan, you've already lost the messaging battle. Reform the Police, Rebuild the police, hell, fund mental health are better branding than something that sounds like you are two steps away from The Purge. I am annoyed when radical language is co-opted in service of rather pedestrian goals.
