All head coaches are CEOs, it’s their job. You quite literally at the college level do not have the time to coach a position group closely as a head coach. It’s more about putting the right guys in place, having meetings to decide on a game plan, and then trusting them to execute it.
Offensive staff and defensive staff turns over every year. Harbaugh had multiple DCs and OCs before he won at Michigan. Saban would fire staff or bring on analysts even AFTER winning.
No some head coaches coach a side of the ball and call plays. They have something they contribute instead of being an exec purely.
