Man, I don't even understand how that's his biggest record. That song was the reason why I didn't like him at first, shyt irritated me. That might be the worst record he's ever done. Then I heard Givenchy and my opinion of him changed :wow:

Nobody in rap understands melody like he does
It's something about the whole track that is like the most accessible Young Thug / London combination. It's the most "poppy" beat i've ever heard from London. It feels like some summertime West Coast shyt.. it's close to corny on the sweetness scale. But it thumps like London.

With Thug - it has all the quirks the hardcore fans love but in a easy, pop way. It's basically Juicy.. rags to riches.. look after my children.. brotherly love... I do it for my mama and dad..you can't stop me. But also aspirational and gangsta. So like... hits every demographic. With any level of success it's easy to say "I done did a lot of shyt to live this here lifestyle".

The way that hook drops too. You hear that hook once and it's a wrap. He has dozens of better songs, even poppy ones but.. that's easy catchy one.

Givenchy though :blessed: don't even get me started

Breh all us Thug fans had this revelation at one point.

You start of as skeptical...thinking Young Thug is a gimmick rapper like Lil B or some shyt....

then one day you hear a tune you're feeling...:ohhh:

then another :whoo:

By then end of the night you're overwhelmed :blessed::ohlawd::banderas::mjcry:

That's why I say his music is like an experience. You have to GET it. It has to hit you. I went from avoiding Young Thug threads to actually believing he's a musical genius.

I have nothing but Young Thug in rotation at the moment. And I'm a dude who refuses to listen to post-2006 rap artists.
U just told my exact Thuggatian conversion story :wow:

I'll take this one, Newzz.

I've never once heard Thugger on the radio outside of "About the Money". I happened to see a post regaling his melodic talents and penchant for rhythm on the Coli one slow Friday afternoon and took it upon myself to listen to a few tracks on the video site YouTube.

I came across the song "Best Friend" and was fascinated by the rhythmic mastery Thugger exhibited in every aspect of the track: the verse, the hook, even the adlibs (the perfectly modulated vibrato on one of the "scrrrrrr"s captured my attention in a way no other musical moment has in years). That, combined with the esoteric visuals and dance moves clearly delineated from the traditional Sabar dance of the Senegalese, had me fascinated. Thugger was so effortlessly creating a distinctly AFRICAN American aesthetic rhythmically, melodically, and visually. Truly a masterclass performance.

Then, once I looked into the lyrics and saw themes of rugged independence, self-belief, and familial consciousness-- I could never go back to judging Thugger's work through the narrow lens I did before. I suddenly "got it". I started to do a close listening of the rest of his discography and felt foolish for having thereto precluded myself from recognizing the sonic savant.
:mjcry: :wow:

if u dnt bump thug u dont know music

period

get ya dusty ass out the thread :mjlol:

Young Thug is the poster boy for the era of I-Tunes rap. He drops 5 or so projects a year and it tastes good upon the first listen but then you delete it and forget about it after a week. I'm not even saying the guy doesn't have talent, actually, the opposoite, he's very talented. But nothing he has put out has any lasting appeal to me. Not saying that can't change. I hate Future but I'll be the first to admit 56 Nights was one of the doper projects to come out this year.

I swear I'm not trying to be "that guy" but I've been listening to Thug since like 2010. It's funny everyone remembers exactly where they were or what they were doing when we first "got it" :ohhh:. I remember I skipped school one day because I didn't feel like going :francis:. So I stayed home trying to look up new music. I came across the name Young Thug and I decided to listen just off the name on some :patrice: shyt. I was expecting it to sound like some super underground DOLPH Jeezy trap or something. Then I turned it on and it was some squeaky voice flowing :dwillhuh:. Albeit this was the time when he was trying to sound exactly like Wayne. But the more years passed he began to make his own sound :whoo: and then his personal "classic" 1017 Thug came out and that's when the hipster blogs came out and he's been :ohlawd: ever since.
Plus he had "Stoner" and "Danny Glover" drop and bloggers really fell in love with him :mjpls:
Sorry for the long post :pachaha:
