Nah breh, you ain't alone with how you feel ESPECIALLY on this board..hell, even I have issues myself and I work in mental health.

This place is littered with wounded warriors who vest themselves into this forum like it's literally apart of their lives. It's a place to vent, to disguise and to explore without prejudice because they can't adequately accomplish it in the real world. This is pretty much anywhere in the internet where people mass congregate and honestly, there isn't much wrong with that until you become so locked in that you further fukk up your ability to relate to the real world. However, I think when people really start talking about their issues in a serious format...it can be almost as good as talking to a physical person, AS LONG AS the responses nurture positivity, healing and are conducted in truth. While I don't care for people vesting so heavily in the thoughts of online figures, I understand why and know there's more underlying...people need to talk, especially black folks, when it comes to this. The depression, self loathing and other possible mental health symptoms show themselves in the constant black women vs. black men threads and other standoffish posts regarding race, sex, etc..it's all channeled negatively, which is why I don't think TLR is the best environment for such a conversation to be had since this is a dumping site for bullshyt.
Real talk. Some very acute observations there. I appreciate that.

Any support that isn't directing him to in-person counseling, group etc constructive tools to deal with his situations and moods isn't going to help him to sustain/address his mental well-being in the long run. No untrained individual or group, especially in a forum setting is equipped to help him walk through his own problems, that kind of unstructured (and text-based) support has a definite ceiling, for anyone with mental struggles.

@Sagat you said your dad is a doctor-does he have any contacts in NY or old school buddies who can refer you to a therapist?
I don't want or need a therapist at all. How many times have I said this? LOL. And I absolutely hate when people say this all the time as if I'm some invalid that seemingly can't function without drooling at the mouth.

Seriously. I'm stronger than that.

And this sums up your biggest problem. You just said 'we' look at people who admit to mental struggles as weak, yet right here you're saying that people who use professionals are the same.:snoop: Just as misinformed.

Take it from someone who practically lives in solitude, you need someone or something. That someone doesn't necessarily mean a therapist. It doesn't sound as if you're built for a life of solitude. :manny:

Agreed. A true life of solitude isn't healthy. As someone who has went through this as well. I find it hard to connect with anyone these days not because of inability to find anything in common, but moreso because I don't feel the need to have their presence in my life.

It's not something I reccomend.

Learned what you are saying a long time ago. Same thing offline. You can't keep it too real.
