I'm gonna go against the grain and say that the Raptors played themselves with this trade.
I belive 100% that Kawhi will be leaving to go to LA in the off season and that the rebuild for them won't be sweet.
Just like Chris brussard said " when Kawhi leaves and the franchise is back in the lottery, those years with Lowery and Derozen gonna look better and better with time"
They played themselves like a broad that drops a good loyal nikka for a more popular dude that is just gonna fukk and bounce when the oppertunity arises.

I'm more worried on the business side of things. MLSE owns both the Raptors and the Leafs. Right now the Leaf have a really good team and the Raptors can easily be put on the back burner if they don't produce.
But honestly, I can see Kawhi loving the city. He looks like he could fit in.

Derozen is gonna BALL OUT in POPS system mark my words....He couldnt have went to a more perfect situation, Because he has shown he's willing to improve and work on his game every summer.
And you're right, he improved every summer. Even after getting that bag. Got a lot of respect for that.
But the reality is that staying in Toronto, he'd never be able to improve at the pace that he'll now have the opportunity to improve at being coached by Pop.
The chip on his shoulder he's got now from being dealt, plus the fact that there's nothing to do in San Antonio will help as well.
A season with Pop could genuinely transform the dude's game. Casey was never going to be able to do that (and that's no knock on him). I doubt this new coach Nurse would be able to either (no knock on him either).
Masai has made clear that the Raptors' goal is to get to the finals. You can agree or disagree with that being a legitimate goal - I got no beef with those who think its an unrealistic expectation. But that's the goal he's set for the organization.
Given that goal, running the same team back again in 2018-2019 wasn't going to get them there. Boston with a healthy Kyrie, healthy Hayward, and rapidly developing Tatum were going to eat the Raptors alive. I doubt that series would go even 6 games TBH.
So changes needed to be made. Firing Casey was step #1. Dealing Derozan was step #2. Lowry's next up if he doesn't perform to his contract this coming season, and then they'll be in full rebuild mode. Masai will be wheeling and dealing for picks, taking on bad contracts, and tanking like a motherfukker.
In the meantime, for at least 1 year, Masai has a team (assuming Kawhi returns to superstar form) that will at least take Boston to 7 games, if not outright win the ECF.
