It's not a BASIC question. The entirety of the soccer world cup was played this summer and not ONCE did a reporter ask a player where another country was.

1. because its really not all that important in the context of the game being played.
2. because its offensive to assume that someone isn't aware of where a country is...its condescending.

You think they asked any USA players where Ghana was when they played them?
You think they asked anyone where Costa Rica or Honduras was?

No, because those reporters were more professional and classier than that.

2. it's offensive to ask someone about a team you're playing?

this is beyond stupid, you know that. Barkley was asked about Angola back in 92 - people are asked this question all the time. You only remember the stupid or great answers.

Barkley had a great answer
Cousins had a stupid answer

I don't know if they asked anyone where Costa Rica or HOnduras was, do you now that for certain?

aight, I'm done here.

I see people are just race-baiting on here between this and the Ferry situation. Sucks every thread turns into some race bait or race war , with the minority opinion being called "CACS" and such.

It was stupid then and its stupid now...the answer in this case matters not. And I know because I literally watched EVERY match of the WC...yes with Picture in Picture and when the pre-games and post games came on I watched those too.

It's beyond stupid you STILL don't even see the reasoning as to why I was upset. You instantly went into defensive mode. We can disagree and I can respect you for that. But you failed to even see the other side of the argument making you no better than the people coming in and just calling you a cac and leaving

I don't think anyone has a problem with Slovenia

the way the reporter used the country at an attempt to make a terrible point is the issue here

yeah, it's not quite the same and that's why I call it an infantile response. The comparison is not the same, I see where Cousins thought this was a great response and I get it from the posters in this thread and why I got 20 negs.

But most of you have never been overseas, never represented anyone much less your country, and never worked in the PR field - so I expect these kind of responses.

It's like when you meet an uneducated person and they are so ignorant , that when you speak to them educationally they get mad and start getting an attitude with you and being antagonistic. In your head, you're like "these people are ignorant" and in their head they are like "he thinks he so smart, i'll show them".

This is exactly what's happening with Demarcus cousins and the posters in this thread.
Cousins is a basketball player his job is to know basketball related things , knowing where Slovenia is on a Map is irrelevant to how he performs on the court and the reporter should know better unless she had a agenda (which she clearly did) is she asking Slovenian players to name places in America ? It's all irrelevant

actually you drew me back in.

1. I never got defensive, you're the one who was defensive, but this is perception isn't it. Then you started trying to prove you point by bringing up strawmans, which I vigorously rebuffed but again that perception.

2. You've failed to read the plenty of times where I said, I understand the point everyone is making here. But it's ignorant and you can blame the reporter all you want. The reaction from the much more known Demarcus COusins is what everyone cares about, until he gave rise to the reports question by answering it in such a horrible low-brow fashion.

You drew me back in because you want to paint this picture of me being defensive....defensive about what? I called you and other ignorant, you can't say the same about me. Demarcus lacks decorum anyone of a learned background would tell you, you don't give rise to those type of questions. Which is exactly what D.C did and it's a shame. You guys sound like Republicans/Tea Partiers defending Sarah Palin against "gotcha" journalism. You think those journalist's care? They continued to bombard her with those questions because they knew she was too stupid/ignorant to answer them in a way that would diffuse the question. All her republican and tea partier cohorts realized this and started making stupid and ignorant statements about the journalists, because they couldn't do anything else. This is a similar situation and it's funny watching you guys defend D.C. and lambaste the journalist.

These statements sound contradictory to me. How do you know whether or not player x was asked about country y?

So because Slovenia is in the tournament, players are supposed to take out an Atlas and find it? :rudy: 95% of the world doesn't know where Slovenia is. Why single out an American?
99%. Some people that have been there only know where it is by reference to another well known country like Italy, Croatia or Austria. Truth is, its a country of 2 million people and I cant think of any good reason why any random person would know where it is

Asking if you know where the country your playing is completely irrelevant and If she's going to ask that to him it's fair for him to ask her that question . Why are you playing off her question as innocent and attaching some intent to his question ?

does Random person mean a guy who is playing against them tomorrow and is literally 3-4 countries away?

Or how about the guy who already played them previously in an exhibition tournament - since the U.S. has already played them just a few month ago.

Maybe it is too much to ask for him to have a least identified the team on a map, but my argument is more about this response and lack of decorum.
