I think the democratic nominee feeling like there's a chance that people that are ostensibly on their side may not vote for them, so maybe their platform should be formulated in a ways that acknowledges those people's concerns is healthier than the expectation that they'll get every center-left vote just because they're not Trump or a Trump ally.
How about the party stop running cover for people who enable authoritarian politics. Why are you blaming voters instead of holding our own party accountable, especially when they’re the ones in this made up scenario pushing someone like Gavin Newsom in the first place.

But at some point some of you need to own that you are ok with the MAGA project taking over this country if you dont get your way. That what this boils down to. You are ok with the country descending in to fascism, a white supremacist government, and terrorizing immigrants if you dont get your prefered nominee.

I'll vote for AOC or Gavin Newsome or whoever I think will stop fascism, I will always vote against MAGA and I will encourage others to do the same. And I can sleep at night with my decision.
