Two things can be true at the same time, Democrats have taken a turn to the right since the 60's/70's and do not represent working class people as well as they used to. That's true. But it's also true that Republicans have been much, much worse. And they have been much much worse since at least the Reagan Administration (before a lot of us were even born). The majority of Republicans don't even propose or pretend to support any policies that would benefit working class people.

Neither of you two are idiots and I know that you can appreciate nuance, I'm not sure why some leftists seem to adopt the strategy of villifying establishment Dems and either infantilizing or indemnifying the voters from their own bad choices. It can both be true that Dems can be better but also that the electorate constantly votes against their own self interest.

The voters are either stupid and/or they don't believe the things that you claim they believe. It is not mutually exclusive to claim that Dems can be better, but also that the electorate needs to be better, both those propositions can be true at the same time.

Voters can be stupid, but who else is going to elect them?

Voters also also naturally reactionary. Instead of staying steadfast in wanting to create a social democracy, the GOP have courted the evil that lives in all of us as their policies and the Dems have become Reagan/Bush republicans.

Neither have sought to materially improve our lives, but the GOP have appealled to our bare instincts in blaming the outside group.

At what point do we stop doing the same thing every election. The DNC still hasn’t released a real autopsy of the 2024 election, because it would highlight how poorly centrist politics perform and why Democrats keep losing ground. It’s 2026, not even primary season yet, and centrists are already demanding total loyalty after openly running against a progressive just a few months ago.The establishment deserves criticism. I’m tired of losing elections to extremists. I’m tired of watching the country go deeper into debt to subsidize corporations and billionaires. How many times do we have to slam our heads against the wall hoping for different results.Newsom isn’t the answer. He’s aligned with wealthy donors, and he’s repeatedly backed down when it matters both with bills and on right wing podcast. He’s not going to prosecute anyone, he’s not going to take bold action, and he’s not going to do what’s necessary to get the country back on track.Voters aren’t stupid. They’re exhausted by the same policies that have chipped away at this country since the 1970s. That’s why the country keeps swinging back and forth. The right gets power and makes things worse. The left gets power and does nothing with it except repeat the same approach voters rejected four or eight years earlier. You want to know what's stupid? To keep doing the same loser neoliberal politics over and over for the last 50 years

Ok, this goes back to constantly infantilizing the voters. They have now had their Medicare and SNAP benefits cut in order to benefit the rich. Trump is also screwing with student loans to ensure that their children will stay in debt forever, advocating for even longer mortgage periods to ensure the same thing, and destabilizing the status of the dollar as the global currency which will hurt their capacity to borrow for and affect things like their car loans.

The establishment does deserve criticism, but nothing in your post provides a reasonable explanation for why they continue to vote in a party that has almost uniformly aimed, for forty years, to cut their benefits and healthcare to benefit the billionaires.

You want to keep excusing the electorate, that's fine. Let them keep voting in these leopards who have already told us that they want to eat our faces.

This is what the Republican base actually wants, so yes, they’re going to keep voting for it. I think the confusion comes from assuming swing voters have loyalty to either party. They don’t. They’ll vote for Democrats one cycle, and then switch right back when Democrats fail to deliver anything meaningful.

That’s the core problem. Republicans do what their base wants. Democrats….... what exactly do they do for their base?

I’m saying one electorate consistently gets exactly what it wants, while the other is told over and over to make sacrifices “for the greater good.” One party operates with strong internal discipline and partisanship, and the other plays political checkers with rotating villains so they can pretend bipartisanship still exists in order to continue receiving donor money.
