The fun part is the left said Hillary couldn’t win because it would stifle the lefts movement and that a Trump election would usher in a new wave.

It gave us Joe Biden.

And if democracy still exists it’s going to give us jd Vance or another moderate.

Hey you all are stupid.

"Abolish ICE" is a nonstarter. That slogan is too toxic and too easy to distort. All you're going to end up doing is defending what you don't mean instead of communicating what you want. It should be simpler to just explain what you mean than trying to use a catch-all slogan. I understand that it is emotionally and morally potent, but we need to be asking if it is politically durable.

Just start by communicating: Immigration enforcement needs to rebuilt from the ground up.

Talk about ending mass detention and militarized enforcement.

Talk about how immigration law is civil, not criminal.

Advocate for moving to a civilian immigration system focused on law, dignity, and safety.

You can acknowledge that an enforcement apparatus should exist for violent actors or genuine threats, but that it needs to be narrow in scope, transparent through strong oversight, accountable, and not under the control of a single entity.

You can sell this by communicating the difference between someone who overstayed a visa and someone who committed a violent felony and how our system treats them too similarly.

I think it's easier to persuade people that way than just signaling to them with a slogan.

I think people overestimate the importance of these slogans. People know how they feel about Trump and ICE.

Somebody that's generally hostile towards nonwhite immigrants (which is a huge portion of the electorate) is going to find a reason to vote Republican regardless. Whether Dems run on "Abolish ICE" or "We're not that much different than Trump" won't matter.

I'd rather Dem candidates run on whatever they think is actually the best policy (whether that be abolishing ICE or not) and make their case to the voters, rather than trying to run on what they think will offend the least amount of people.

Wym by this ? Because I'm pretty sure people actually do believe ice should be abolished after slaughtering 10+ civilians this year. Now if your ideology is coming from a place that believe in ICE the presidents personal paramilitary like Hakeem I agree it is a nonstarter.

Once people conceded there was an "immigration problem", that effectively took any conversation of abolishing ICE off the table.
