Can someone please explain to me what Democrats could possibly gain by throwing Biden under the bus, proving or disproving he was aware of his diagnosis? What political capital does this buy the Dems?

Even if Biden had announced he wasn't running for re-election and there was an open convention, there were no candidate strong enough to justify bypassing Harris, as existing VP, for the nomination. So the options to run opposite of Trump were skeletons in the closet (Shapiro), we're going to use the shortcomings of your state against you (Newsom), or they tell us you're sharp, but who the hell are you (Beshear).

Gain the trust of the base. If every primary candidate doesn’t introduce themselves as “hi, my name is … and fukk Joseph Robinette Biden” then they are unfit to lead us :birdman:

Why are you framing it as it could only happen in June of 2024, and not post 2022 mid terms?

Feel free to adjust the timeline as you see fit. Summer 2024 after the early debate was when the calls for him to step aside for age and cognitive decline started. That means up until then the party was 100% on board with his ability to win and lead.

Rolling back to midterms 2022 doesn't make any of the prospects stronger, actually hurts their cases and strengthens Kamala's for succession.

Let's speculate even further and say that by 2023 Biden couldn't finish his term, Kamala takes over by default - she's even less likely to deviate from an ill and dying president who was seen as politically successful at that point. The foundation and policy strategy would stay mostly the same based on the principled success of things such as BBB, Inflation Reduction and Chips Act. That timeline still puts us in eerily similar territory where we ended up instead replacing the decline conversation with sympathetic and empathetic tales of his career.

Unless we believe the Dems were going to get the political equivalent of a sympathy f*ck, I don't see how much pans out to be different.

This is too many words.

“Dems weren’t honest about Biden’s health and that’ll never happen again under my administration"

Moving on.

You say this but a) we don’t know that, b) primaries introduce people to candidates c) campaigning and hearing the public helps shapes views.

This is all speculation from both of us but there is more history with having an actual primary and letting voters decide their candidate than what happened last year. If Kamala wins a primary, she is stronger going into the general election than Biden anointing her in June.

He wasn't seen as politically successful in 2023. Biden's approval ratings dropped in fall of 2021 and never recovered.

I think this whole discussion is weird considering how much we make fun of and don't believe Trump's health pronouncements. Joe Biden may have had cancer for years and was not up front with it along with his cognitive decline.

How is it stupid when your entire political ideology is right wing and you're an admitted Trump supporter :manny:
I’m not a trump supporter. I want democrats to stop making Trump’s job easier.

You think calling people “right wingers” is some way to win an argument. I’m offended by what happens, not what what you call it.
