It starts as a positive but eventually turns negative—donors and hidden billionaires always expect a return on their investment. Now, if they want to openly throw money at podcasts/influencers out of pure love, I have no issue with that. But it's hidden for a reason: they don’t want people connecting the media’s direction to the viewpoints of its funders.

And then there’s the fact that they expect silence on certain topics. Criticize something like leadership or Israel, and I guarantee the dark money dries up. You can’t expect to escape this fascist period while being unable to speak openly and honestly about every single issue. No one’s saying these people shouldn’t make money—I actually think they should. But dark money isn’t the way forward. We don’t need left-wing versions of Benny Johnson and Tim Pool.
