Every word Ezra Klein has written or uttered since Charlie Kirk's death is just Klein saying, "I have material comfort and a great life. Please let me keep all this! Please don't kill me too! Please don't burn down the country and destroy my net worth!"

"Much of what I would describe as Kirk's worst moments were now just standard fair MAGA Republicanism. And the leader of MAGA Republicanism is the President of the United States...we are going to have to live here with each other believing what we believe. Disagreeing in the ways we disagree."

That's unfair. Ezra has gone out on a limb many times. He's processing this just like everyone else.

I've come to assume whenever something bad happens, that it will be invariably a crisis to be milked.
What odds do you think this will be used to sunset Section 230, or push through the SCREEN Act (S.737; HR.1623)?
@evangreer.bsky.social, your thoughts?

Trump seems much more focused on shutting down liberal groups. Also, Silicon Valley kisses his ass. This might happen, but not immediately, I'd guess.

95% agree. That little bit that's quoted is not wrong, though.
It basically comes down to whether you think it's (still) worth trying to rescue the US by peaceful means, or if you think we're so far gone that there will have to be massive violence to right the ship.

*We* - liberals, progressives - have been living with the policy choices of Republicans on guns, wealth taxation, the minimum wage, abortion (the crackdowns on clinics long before Dobbs) and other issues *for decades.* It's Republicans who now think they don't need to live with us.

Well said. I sure can't argue with any of that.
But I still really do not want a violent revolution if it is at all possible to avoid. Those never work out well. There is a part of me that thinks the MAGAts -- esp the always online ones -- are riding a wave right now, but that it won't last.

I'm not saying we're suddenly going to be back in democratic paradise, but I do think the eliminationist nonsense from the MAGAts is just that: nonsense.

I admit I could well be whistling past the graveyard, but I am nonetheless going to keep doing it for a little while longer. It suppose part of it is thinking that people who aren't always online aren't very aware of just how horrible the Trump regime is behaving, but that they will soon be.

You think there'll be effective resisatance as a critical mass gradually becomes aware. I hope you're right. I'm not optimistic.

bjkeefe.bsky.social
That's a reasonable way to restate my position, yes.
I wouldn't say I'm optimistic. Maybe cautiously optimistic. Maybe not even that. Maybe just "we still have a chance."
I will admit I do sometimes wonder if it's time for me to debut my exercise of my Second Amendment rights.

These statements by him are just dumb as fukk (or as you said, in naked self interest).
