This is always an issue with a minority party becoming the majority. Individuals get so used to being in opposition to something they forget how to formulate and communicate what/who they are for. You can’t just say “We oppose Pelosi” without having a viable alternative that can garner votes. There has not been a contender willing to throw their hat in the ring and until then, Pelosi is it.

It's much easier to pit Pelosi against a hypothetical leader which is all what has been done until Fudge appeared on the scene. Barbara Lee seemed to be not interested. Tim Ryan spearheading this thing was always going to be a problem he is one of those people who thinks Pelosi is too liberal and the Dems need to appeal to centrist white guys in Youngstown, Ohio. He changed some of his social positions he held about pro-life which looks more convenient than anything. I suspect they could not get Progressives on their side too because they come from districts where terms such as "Pelosi liberal" are thrown around in attack ads.

A lot of these types live in trump country too. They’re fighting for their seats.

no one can throw their hat in the ring because they know what will happen. mainstream media(the same media that was pro hillary anti bernie) will go all the way in on said new person with their hat in the ring. and they will get ripped to shreds. They want pelosi to say Ok I'll step down, on her own and then they will have a hat tossed in. in that order.
