Defense isn’t just about steals, blocks and rebounds it’s about slowing your opponent down and taking them out of their rhythm.
Rodman was the best at that. He had the ability to not only take you out of your rhythm he could get in your head causing you to make mistakes you ordinarily wouldn’t make.

It was a great performance (the 30-20-20) game, but when people say things like it’s the greatest performance they’ve EVER seen simply because no other player has done it, they need to slow down. Is it greater than Luka’s 60-20-10 game or Harden’s 50-15-15 game? Funny enough, both those games were against the Knicks, and those performances were in the past ten years.
Again, I mentioned Jokic because someone used his steals numbers as an indicator that he’s a decent defender. Great offensive player, but doesn’t play both sides of the ball.

I respect Rodman. His philosophy was always to blend in with existing systems.

One example, I was arguing with a poster some time back (circa 2011) about "good fouls"
He was dikk glazing lebron for playing entire games without obtaining a single personal foul.
I was like, not getting a single foul during the course of the game means you aren't playing defense.
There are times where it is better to send a player to the line than it is to let them take a high percentage shot worth more points.
You got 6 fouls. might as well use some of them. Obviously you don't want to be in foul trouble the whole game. But if you have zero personals in the fourth. Play aggressive d against the poorer free throw shooters on the other team.

Jokic has a number of limitations on defense, but that doesn't make him a bad defender. His BBIQ to get steals/deflections is a valuable trait. You want him to do all that he does on offense (which is arguably more than any big that's ever played the game), whilst also running around on defense and constantly closing out behind the arc, defending faster, more agile players on drives, when bigs of the past never did that shyt.

Dray is an infinitely better offensive player and he's a better defensive player than Rodman, so what exactly are you talking about here?

Rodman is one of the few guys that players would openly admit they were afraid of.
Hakeem in 1990 had one of the greatest individual defensive seasons ever blew Rodman out the water statistically and anchored a better defense with worse talent around him.
