To be fair Valentine was a monster and had a season that like a handful of folks ever had... Not mad at it.
There's also a reason why Michigan State got bounced in the first round of the NCAA tourney by a 15th seed (Middle Tenn State) & Valentine the team best player only had 13 points.

Buddy played against 13 ranked opponents and avg 26 pts, 3 ast and 5 reb a game plus Hield avg 35 pts a game against #1 Kansas in 2 meetings scoring 46 in OT loss
Denzel played against 7 ranked opponents and avg 18 pts, 7 asst and 8 reb.a game his best game was against #4 Kansas where he had 29,12,12.
Hield played the full regular season
Valentine missed 4 regular season games

In your facts what it shows was that Denzel had to do everything for Michigan State whereas Hield had a better supporting cast around him.
Right. Buddy was a better scorer, which everyone latches on to, but Denzel was carrying that team basically doing everything, including being the pg. Don't get me wrong, I can see the arguments for Buddy, but if this is for the regular season and not including the tourney then this wasn't some one horse race. Denzel had a historical season and was the early poy frontrunner before he went down with the injury. He didn't have the headlines but had just as impressive of a regular season.
Now your just making excuses because you don't have a real rebuttal to the facts I've presented. So the fact that Valentine missed 4 games in the regular season while Hield missed none & Hield played & had better overall numbers against more top ranked teams has nothing to do with the entire team as we are clearly discussing INDIVIDUAL PERFORMANCE WHICH IS WHAT THE AP PLAYER OF THE YEAR AWARD IS BASED ON!
And if Hield had the better supporting cast around him as you say then why was Michigan State before the 1st tourney ranked No.2 by both the AP & USA Today Coaches Poll with more wins than Oklahoma (29-5) while Oklahoma was ranked 7th with (25-7) wins?
