Denzel Washington vs. Wesley Snipes: Who had the better '90s filmography? Strictly 90s, between them two who was the bigger star? Explain why 🤔.

Which star had the better and more memorable run during the '90s?

People of all races around the world are more familiar with Snipes 90s movies. Snipes went through a tear during that time period.

Only Black people really talk about Denzels 90s movies. Not saying they were bad movies but Snipes was an action star.
The wider audience really only talks about three of wesley's movies from his entire career, Blade. Demolition man, and white men can't jump.
But all three of those were in the 90s so i guess technically you could give him the edge. but if you include 89 and 01 Denzel's run was sustained longer throughout the entire period (and all the way up to today obviously.)
With denzel he had movies before during and after this period people still talk about. Glory, Malcom X, mo better blues, He got game, training day,
That was a better 90s run to me because it was consistent through the whole decade plus some. Wesley had two all time hits in 92 & 93 and then didn't really reach that high again until the end of the decade with blade. Hits were so far apart in fact, nobody noticed that simon phoenix and blade have the same exact haircut :pachaha:

My brother's keeper
As a kid/teenager in the 90s, I was a Snipes fan more than Denzel cause it was a carry over of the 80s action stars in a lot of his movies.

But as a filmography Denzel is better.

Snipes vs VanDamme might have me thinking

Denzel, and I think fairly easily. X? Wesley doesn't have anything on that level. He's not even the star of some of the bigger hits on his list. Waiting to Exhale and Mo' Better which Denzel is the actual star of.
This.

Box office, you could go either way.

Malcolm X >>>>> anything Wesley did in the 90s.

Now Wesley always gave you your money's worth. You knew the film would be solid, but there's levels to this shyt.

Above the fray.
Good thread

In terms of runs, Wesley had a great one from New Jack City to Sugar Hill and then US Marshals and Blade
Action films that were entertaining with good box office numbers. So, he had the better overall filmography

Denzel became a full fledged star with his turn in Malcolm X. His 2 Oscar nominations, and role in Oscar nominated Philadelphia in that period points to him being the bigger star in terms of Hollywood.

In terms of fans, Denzel entered and left the 90s being the bigger star , but there was an early 90s period where Wes' career was red hot and he might have been one of the top stars in Hollywood.

Growing up in the 90s I was more a fan of Snipes and action movies in general but as an adult looking at the films that came out in that time period Denzel has the better filmography.

also i wanna point this out for those of yall who don't have kids. those that do, please confirm if this has been your experience.

Young people seem to view Denzel exactly they same way we do. emotional high and lows, tears sometimes all the stuff he was going for.
But when i show them Wesley movies they react differently. They still enjoy them and love him don't get that twisted.
But i often catch them laughing at some of his scenes when they weren't meant to be funny, They seem to feel like his acting is a bit campy and dated at times.

Training Day was 2000s. I've never heard anyone non Black raving about those other movies.
Wesley Passenger 57: "Always Bet on Black". It's a gambling term but I've heard it on TV shows and in real life and everyone always immediately mentions Snipe and that movie.

if you read the whole post i mentioned that glory and training day were some near 90s outliers that i chose to include in the 90s.
but yeah i agree i do hear people often reference passenger 57, but they are usually 40 and up. i never see gen z saying always bet on black
I see kids go back and watch the movies i listed and then do impressions online, or reaction videos.
You gonna tell me you've never seen some gen z person doing a training day impression? Its more popular with black people but i feel like everybody is
familiar.

clearly more timeless and iconic films
