Will Smith doesn't have range.
Personally, he's not funny. He had his funny moments on The Fresh Prince, but his silly movies like Bad Boys don't make me laugh.
He was good in Ali.
I'm told he was good in The Pursuit of Happiness. (I haven't seen that).
So really, what is his range? He's not convincing as a bad ass. He's not funny. He's not taken seriously as a "stone cold serious" actor. I mean, could he pull off a role like, say...Javier Bardem's character in "No Country for Old Men" ?? Never.
So I think we just disagree on Will Smith.

Haven't seen Flight yet...Denzel is great at what he does, and great when he breaks his typical role...just wish he did more often...I understand the comparison with Will.
Will has more range...and a lot of untapped potential but he typecast himself in to comedic tough guy roles because it's safe and brings in those paychecks...but after several hundred million...step out your safe zone breh.

Turning into a Will vs Denzel thread.I don't care about Will's past movies, tbh. If someone gives him a serious enough, dark role and he actually takes it, I think it'd be interesting to see and I'd watch it. Assuming he doesn't phone it in and the movie isn't watered down.
Edit: As for Denzel's movies though I liked Training Day as a movie but I like him as a character better in The Preacher's Wife and Fallen.
And he was born to play Malcolm.

My fav movie by him is john q. He did really well in training day....well he does well in everything. Denzel is one of the best actors in Hollywood period.
fukk that where is he among only "black actors" nonsense. Nikka is right up there with Tom Hanks (he is one of my favorite actors no homo). He has the ability to take a shytty script and make it work.
