DALLAS (AP) — Deron Williams is joining his hometown Mavericks and will try to help salvage a failed bid in free agency similar to three years ago, when he spurned Dallas to stay with the Brooklyn Nets.

Williams, who grew up in the Dallas suburb of The Colony, signed a two-year, $10 million contract Tuesday. He has a player option in the second year.

Dallas had a deal with Williams on Friday and had to wait for him to clear waivers. It was a boost for the Mavericks soon after free agent center DeAndre Jordan reneged on a deal to sign with them and re-signed with the Los Angeles Clippers.

Sleeper pick-up :manny:

Treadmill time for the Mavs.

Deron and Dirk though :wow: Too bad it's at least five years too late. :snoop:

Went from a $25MM loss to $15MM instead and with no state tax compared to NY tax...and got his personal, ideal situation. b*stard made out like a bandit.

if your expecting much from d will then I feel sorry for you. I think he will be better than felton, harris and barea at the point guard spot. but that's not saying much.

Hearing some of these fools on the radio try and make it sound like this was a shrewd move:mjlol:

Hey at least he's off my team. I mean he can still be a good player, you just gotta keep him healthy and manage his minutes.

good move for dallas. they upgraded the PG position significantly from the :trash: they had last season. and it barely cost them anything to do so.

also :dwillhuh: ain't even old, so maybe he can show and prove with this change of scenery.

this team would be decent if they would have still been able to keep jordan.

I agree it makes all the sense in the world if it doesnt work out its only a 2 year deal and not alot of money since there expectations are down with no dj.

This def keeps them in the playoff hunt imo, which is good because Dirk don't deserve to go out tanking.

man, I dunno. their season is too contingent on both wes matthews and parsons successfully returning from off-season surgery next year. also, who the hell is playing the C for the mavs????

dirk CANNOT be your main defender in the paint :mjlol:

Idk breh way I see it they got just enough to stick around the 8th seed if Sac or Utah doesn't make the jump. They also have more than Portland who I feel is def gonna go through the rebuild. Really gonna be Dal, Utah and Sac for the 8th spot
