I genuinely just wanna hear the positives about the city because all I hear is trash and negativity
Fake ass news got you believing it’s 3rd world. It’s just like any other major city it’s just that the white folks here reeeeeeally don’t give a fukk about black folks or the ghetto. You have the normal poor schools, police don’t come, crime etc. but you also have systemic issues like no real public transportation and car insurance being 3 times as high, and businesses not catering to people within the county

But other than that the downtown is nice (river, boat parties, casinos, sports, food, bars. And imo besides New Orleans and NYC Detroit has the best historic neighborhoods scattered around the city that you gotta find yourself

It’s gentrifying tho I’m about to move. Wypipo coming in strong and my rent has gone up $300 in the last 3 years. Plus it’s getting to be a little :mjpls: if you know what I mean.

This ish is happening all over Michigan. Someone was squatting in one of my parent's rentals. Kicker: It was my brother's friend.

I just questioned a friend there if he was squatting. Cause the house he stays in is empty with a few chairs, a table and paint cans/supplies. But, upstairs he has his bed and stuff. He just laughed.... :smh:

People that have rentals/vacant homes need to make sure they check the house daily and turn their utilities, water and gas off when vacant - cause some people be waiting to squat and run up bills - that you will still have to pay.

For as :mjpls: as it seems down there Black folks gotta do more than just go to the Nike store....shyt my two favorite cafe's in the city are down there...so are two of my favorite eateries. And I stay at Vault of Midnight picking up some Graphic Novels.

Its not as bad as the media hype
I live in one of the so called worst areas...
But i have money so thats a choice on my part.

However, I have a residence in another area I rent out.
Plus midtown and downtown are nice (but overpriced and extremely gentrified.

Its mostly black city with a rich history. Part of that history is madddd violence. But not large gangs like most major cities- just regular people taking situations into their own ignorant hands.

Positives are, bars, stores, malls, museums, riverwalk, some large parks, international border, potential to get money, potential to still look and feel fly even if you dont have money, life lessons central, and.... A promising future (something most cities lack)

The politics are a combo of liberal and conservative. Best of both... Gay rights, environmental, pro black, CAC racist, big business, large unions, corp monopolies, legal weed and gun rights- all rolled in one.

I be telling people all damn day that Detroit don't even have gangs like that. If you got killed or caught up there is a HIGH chance you knew exactly why and who. The degrees of separation in our crime is low as fukk

7mile to SE & Uptown!
I've heard so much negative shyt about Detroit in the past few days man. Why would anyone want or chose to live there? Can any brehs explain the upside of being in Detroit?
Housing market is still the best in the country. You just have to chose the right neighborhoods and pay attention to your surroundings.
How's the standard of living around their area? Just wondering
I grew up and ran through some of the worst neighborhoods in the city and came out basically unscathed. It's just like any city, you have to be aware of your surroundings. I now live West 7 mile and my neighborhood is GREAT. Majority brick single family homes with pretty cool neighbors who support the community. Detroit as a whole may be a shyt hole but it's pockets of diamonds in the rough still :manny:

Breh, to this day I refuse to live in anything that's not brick/concrete. I don't think people realize part of what made certain neighborhoods look so shytty is those vinyl siding/wood frame homes....those shyts look AWFUL after 50+ years. Meanwhile an area like Bagley can still look amazing because most of the homes are brick. Momz was smart as fukk to go with brick...her crib looks just as good if not better than what it did when she bought it in the 80's.
