Ready to Die and even Life After Death still had plenty of chopped up samples...basically anything Easy Mo Bee did. Only his singles had those unoriginal jacked beats, but that was basically the case for any rapper signed to a major back then. At least one single would always have that lazy 70s/80s sample.Alot of that Bad Boy stuff had extremely obvious samples and literally zero chops. Look at the shyt like Feel So Good and Get Ready by Mase. They didnt even try with those songs and of course Mase had no choice but to use the tracks because that's just what the formula was with Puff and the crew.
BIG deserved alot more and it would've been nice to see him link with some west coast producers because I could EASILY see him floating on some Quik and Battlecat tracks
I just thought it was interesting considering he has such a short catalogue compared to other greats and Bad Boy was known for sampling heavyJesus...
Who in the hell cares about shyt like this...![]()

shyt, wayyyy more than 85%What an odd thing to nitpick
85% of beats that anyone rapped over in the 90s used samples
Ready to Die title track, Me & My bytch, and One More Chance (OG) weren't samples either. Great Value Interpolations of samples, yeah, but technically original.
How come no one cares about obvious loops when it’s RZA or Madlib, but when it’s someone producing for Biggie then it’s an issue?Alot of that Bad Boy stuff had extremely obvious samples and literally zero chops. It's weird that they couldn't clear the El Debarge sample for the OG version but could clear a more popular Debarge sample for the remix. probably an album budget thingThe OG "One More Chance" is also a Debarge sample. They also threw in "Mind's Playing Tricks" when Biggie references the song and says the Scarface and Bushwick line
Mods bush this thread please![]()

What's the point of being a "hip hop head" if you cant discuss hip hop things?we're asking about samples as hip hop heads?
Y'all are obsessed with everything being chopped up... some shyt is just dope by itself and sounds good to rhyme over... you ain't gotta take everything and try to 9th Wonderize it up. Some of the greatest hip-hop songs ever were straight loops.
Breh, Puffy had his artists rapping and singing over shyt that him and his producers didnt even bother changing up a little bit. I wouldn't be surprised if 30% of the Bad Boy catalogs is songs they just lifted and I could imagine how many tracks couldnt get cleared because the original artists didnt say yes to the sample.
At least flip the sample a little bit instead of something lazy like Playa Hater, which gotta be the worst BIG song and didnt need to be on the album right along with Another. Life After Death could've and should've been a single disc with nothing but heat from start to finish. Now some will disagree but BIG deserved better than to have obvious loops to spit on.
