Bait click fake news headlines. If you think underage sex workers, most of whom are forced into it, should be arrested you lost at life. They need to be protected and the cops need to go after the pimps and johns who committed the actual crime.

Nah. It is not click bait. You have to understand that before this law, although the police could charge a minor with prostitution they did not have to.

With the passing of this law it is now NOT possible to charge a minor with prostitution.

Do you get it now?

They shouldn't be charged with prostitution period. They aren't committing a crime, they are the victims of an illegal crime.

Prostitution is illegal in most states however if a woman involved in a sex ring is arrested she doesn't get charged - the cops interview her and go after her pimps and johns. Cali is just adding that same protection to children.

So depending on what publication you look at, the headlines will either say they did or they didn't legalize...?!?!?

California Democrats legalize child prostitution

No, California did not legalize child prostitution

Edit: The law doesn't "legalize", but shields underage person or "decriminalizes" them from prosecution for prostitution.

The question is still if this is a good or bad thing, and what are unintended consequences?
California will be the underage porn king as if it already wasn't/isn't.

Are you attempting to say that there is no such thing as a teenage prostitute?

I agree that's what they seem to be insinuating....personally I think that this will not only encourage more minors to become prostitutes (knowing that they cannot be arrested) but it will encourage more pimps to recruit minors because they also know that they will not be arrested and charged.

This is more of a "feel good" policy while ignoring the unintended consequences.

Like you said earlier, prior to this law, it was a case by case situation...the police didn't have to charge them depending on the circumstances, charging a minor with a crime was dependent on a number of factors.

California is a left wing mess as it is, so i'm not really surprised.

There are sure. The majority of child prostitutes did not choose that though, which is why in most states when a child prostitute is arrested she's interviewed and leads them to sex traffickers.

Hell to be honest many cities don't even charge adult prostitutes. They get arrested and held in jail before getting cited and let go.

no not really,

do you want to charge minors with prostitution?

I think the question is does this law help or hurt fukkboi pimps and traffickers of underage sex rings? I can't tell if this is good, bad, or the unitended consequences

Here is Washington Examiner's analysis:

"Beginning on Jan. 1, prostitution by minors will be legal in California. Yes, you read that right.

SB 1322 bars law enforcement from arresting sex workers who are under the age of 18 for soliciting or engaging in prostitution, or loitering with the intent to do so. So teenage girls (and boys) in California will soon be free to have sex in exchange for money without fear of arrest or prosecution.

The unintended but predictable consequence of how the real villains — pimps and other traffickers in human misery — will respond to this new law isn't difficult to foresee. Pimping and pandering will still be against the law whether it involves running adult women or young girls. But legalizing child prostitution will only incentivize the increased exploitation of underage girls. Immunity from arrest means law enforcement can't interfere with minors engaging in prostitution — which translates into bigger and better cash flow for the pimps. Simply put, more time on the street and less time in jail means more money for pimps, and more victims for them to exploit."

you guys do realise child prostitution hasn't been made legal? the law will simply not prosecute the children.

however, people that solicit child prostitutes will still have to face crimes & child trafficking laws will still be entact to stop these pimps

how is it a "feel good" policy if children are being protected?

& as they have stated they will seek to actively rehabilitate these children rather than throw them under the jail

"They are instead to be treated as victims who can be placed into a safe environment by the Department of Social Services, keeping them out of the criminal justice system and potentially off the streets again as sex workers, said state Sen. Holly Mitchell, who introduced SB 1322."
