no not really,

do you want to charge minors with prostitution?

you do guys realise child prostitution hasn't been made legal? the law will simply not prosecute the children.

however, people that solicit child prostitutes will still have to face crimes & child trafficking laws will still be entact to stop these pimps

how is it a "feel good" policy if children are being protected?

& as they have stated they will seek to actively rehabilitate these children rather than throw them under the jail

"They are instead to be treated as victims who can be placed into a safe environment by the Department of Social Services, keeping them out of the criminal justice system and potentially off the streets again as sex workers, said state Sen. Holly Mitchell, who introduced SB 1322."
You continue to say "children" as way of insinuating that anyone under the age of 18 is incapable of committing a crime of prostitution.

In NYS, the prosecutors and the cops use discretion, depending on the situation. They weren't charging minors for prostitution if they felt that the minor truly was a victim. However, under certain circumstances, they were charging them and rightfully so.

Going after Pimps and sex trafficking rings has always been the priority, that wasn't going to change whether the law was in place or not.

I worked in Children's Services for 5.5 years in NYC, and yes, some of these kids were prostitutes because they were just bad asses, the same is true for some kid drug dealers.....and upon further investigation I discovered many of them had parents who simply tried everything to keep them from doing it but the "child" (some of them were 15-18) simply did not care, and they were charged and arrested for their crimes, and rightfully so.

Like I said earlier, IMO the unintended consequences will be for Pimps to further sophisticate their operations by actively recruiting child prostitutes more than they already were. If I were a criminal Pimp, I know I would.

This is a Pimp's loophole to a large extent.

Lotta nikkas bout to start pimping minors heavy they already were but now nikkas bout to start wanting only that in they stable...this not good actually

So now the cops dont have leverage to pressure these girls into giving up their pimps

I dont understand the logic behind this

Like, are they gonna force them to live in a shelter for a certain amount of time?
