I think his intentions were to analyze race relations with a satirical and sarcastic/ironic theme and to make it entertaining to the masses (which is hard as hell esp for a brotha btw) . But he felt like people, esp whites were just laughing AT him. Which a lot of them were. So I guess it was c00ning by accident.

But fukk watcha heard, the chappelle show is legendary! The fact that people STILL talk about it shows its impact. And the show was on for only TWO seasons.

Everyone in here talking shyt about Chappelle is catching negs off GP. Man was a comedic genius. Dude was never able to control who watched the show and who didn't, and it's stupid to ask him to censor himself so no one feels offended. Besides you can't convince me that a dude who turned down that kind of money to keep his integrity, would do some negative shyt like that intentionally. I have much more respect from him than directors who went the Aaron McGruder route and took the money.

I love Chapelle more than a lot of people in this thread
(pause ) but a lot of y'all are protecting Chappelle because he gave us a lot of laughs over the years but if you sit there and think about it a lot of those skits were even though he had an agenda behind it. And also remember Neal Brennan wrote most of those skits, not Chapelle
But I still loved the show and the skits I'm just saying y'all don't have your mind open to what OP is saying

Some of the skits were "******ish" but I think that ultimately proved to be a good thing, because the demand for such comedy isn't as high nowadays.

As far as race goes, Chapelle Show pushed the envelope about as far as it could be pushed.

Yes, Chappelle inadvertently portrayed some negative stereotypes as straight jokes instead of satire. Pardon him for playing to the top of his viewer's intelligence. You can't call him a c00n because he walked away. Dude is probably the best living comedy tho. So I never say he c00ned at all. I would say that cacs gon cac.

Dave was very explicit about why he left Hollywood, and has been for years.

Someone correct me if I am wrong but it was when he was filming the plane skit for season 2 and was wearing the white-face, some of the white staff members were making some very disparaging comments. While he was trying to bring to light important racial issues by using comedy as a medium, white people used it as an excuse to continue to talk down on black folk.

It was after that he had decided to quit the show.

Maybe the title is clickbait. Even so, it's still ignorant.

This. I don't think he did it. I don't think white people understood his jokes and took it as a racial thing because that's all they know but Dave can't be faulted for someone else's ignorance. We got it and knew what he meant. But I've witnessed white people who did not , who had no reference for what he was talking aboutfor example how many 19 yr old Pantera blink 182 country music loving white kids knew the fukk was going on with the Charlie Murphy and Prince skits??) and took it like that Chris Rock "there are black people and there are nigggaz" skit. A lot did not, but when Dave said he saw that one white guy laughing a little too hard, I was glad he noticed because I saw that too.

I enjoyed the comedy of Chapelle's show very much. One of my favorite points about the show was how they reversed the circumstances of black and white people to show the differences in experience.

The one where the police raided the white collar criminals house and shot his dog and drug dealingTyrone was being treated gingerly by the police was a highlight of the uneven application of law in this country.

Chapelle's Show may have flew over the head of some viewers and detractors.
