There's a difference between what Ross said and this horror-core shyt that other rappers say (e.g. DMX and Em). People know they're just doing some horror shyt. Ross's shyt came off as realistic, due to it being date rape and probably something that people actually do.
there's no difference but back then you could get away with shyt this era is far more PC

This era is more "PC" but there certainly is a difference between lines said for shock value and what Ross said.

The kind of shyt cat's like X or Biggie were saying back then, they were EXPECTING reactions. Ross wasn't expecting that backlash, much like some people who do that shyt don't expect to be accused of being rapists. It's a lot of people that don't even understand why that would be considered rapey because it's such a casual, normalized thing, which was why it was highlighted in this social climate more so than blatant trolling.

You don't know the context he meant it in no one does but Ross himself. Something being said for shock value doesn't change what was said, also Ross has no history of rape so it's not like he "bout dat life" or doing what he's saying in his raps. What DMX said sounds exactly the same if not worse. At the end of the day I'm not offended by either one cause I know it's just rap these are rappers not rapists.

When Tyson said that shyt about eating Lennox Lewis' kids it was for shock value but the public were outraged all the same, why? Because it was part of pop culture hiphop was not, it was pretty much an underground subculture( or at least not as popular as it is now) and this song wasn't a single it was just a track on the Album that the average person wouldn't find. Whereas Ross' song was being played on the radio and shyt.

How can you listen to the song and NOT know the context?

Even if you wanna resort to having to take his word for it on some remedial shyt...

"The term 'rape' wasn't used," he said. "You know I would never use the term rape in my records … [Besides,] in reality some people do these things, and shouldn't it be brought to light so young women can protect themselves?!" - Rick Ross

He was just being informative :troll:

Even in the attempt to spin it he shows that it wasn't slid in there to get for imagery or to be shocking. It was casual shyt talking that included a line about something is much more commonplace and grounded in reality than having sex with corpses or Mike Tyson eating children.

Whether it's realistic or not doesn't really matter the effect is still the same and raping women with or without the use of pills is still very real so I don't see the difference at all. It being less realistic doesn't justify it any more than implying the use of date rape pills in a song which is also clearly fiction.

If it was Cee Lo or Mystikal who said that, now that would be a whole other story:patrice:

Hilarious thread.

X is Coming wasn't a single, it's an album cut. Among people that actually listened to his album, yeah it was a shocking moment. Never hit the media though.

I remember the first time I heard it, I was sitting in the passenger seat riding with a buddy, he said the line and we looked at each other like  then bust out laughing saying this dude is crazy. The whole this is revenge know that before u die shyt was so raw, you had to respect it.

You folks need to go back and listen to some old Geto Boys shyt, this and Ross are lightweight compared to some of the shyt they were rapping about.
