No! Choosing Draymond over KD and Poole did though
They would probably be even a worst position

2020the next year after losing in the finals Durant was hurt along with klay. curry only played 5 games

2021 Durant was back but no klay. So it’s no guarantee. Especially if Dray is off the team

2022 klay back but who gon stop Tatum If they made it to the finals. Wiggins don’t exsist

2023 & 2024 durant and curry with bums ain’t winning shyt

so it’s a scenario where the dubs don’t win in 2022

Haliburton would've been seen as a huge reach
LaMelo was right there

Tbh it was a bit of bad luck
Klay tore his Achilles on the night of the draft iirc
If he has torn it like say 2 weeks before I think they take LaMelo since they would've known they weren't gonna have Klay for a full season and would've needed and immediate starter in the backcourt

Yeah he was a reach at #2 in the 2020 draft. But that would’ve made the situation even better, they could’ve traded back and gotten another future pick since Halliburton fell to the 12th pick. And the Warriors were exploring a trade for Beal at the time so they must’ve been considering playing Klay at SF. Curry-Halliburton backcourt would be insane right now.

He's not bringing the ball up when Steph is on the court. He wouldn't have the ball nearly as much as he does in Charlotte. Maybe he runs the second unit, but that's it.
Lamelo running the second unit is much better than what we have now. And Steph plays off-ball. Lamelo can definitely have the ball in those situations

Steph has made literally every player next to him better. He’d do the same with Lamelo

:dead: @ the thought of thinking GS is better off with Draymond instead of KD.

Draymond was unplayable for a good chunk of the 2022 playoffs and was dogshyt the first four games of the Finals. That signature Game 4 victory happened with Kerr finally benching him.

KD is a better defender than Wiggins and can score 30 a night. :mjlol:

In no world would Kerr have given LaMelo the freedom he has in Charlotte.

Draymond would have punched him instead of Poole.

and if the plan was just to park LaMelo in a corner, Haliburton destroys him in that aspect.

The NBA isn't the place to draft someone high, hoping to finally utilize him in year 6. Tough decisions had to get made and they've been reluctant to make them. They were so reluctant to let GP2 go, they traded Wiseman and what 5 2's to get him back? They caught lightning in a bottle with Wiggins in what was basically a walk year and they chose to give him an extension. Why? Because they hoped it was real even though Wiggins has shown you who he is his whole life. Have their picks panned out? No and there were better decisions to be made but in the end, it comes down to Klay not being as good and Draymond not being as effective. Those are 2 of the 3 main core members. Nobody was gonna break through that because Klay and Draymond (Wiggins to a lesser extent) carry sentimental value. I can't excuse Kerr though. Given what he said about that guy who played at Georgia over the summer for Team USA, the talent evaluation skills seem to be iffy, to put it nicely.

The NFL offers the best fall back to making seismic moves because you can fall back on blaming the cap, blaming age and simply too many mouths to feed. With the NBA once you have your core, as long as you can pay it, you can keep it and if you win, very little will convince you to dump someone so important to your history. Even if trading Klay or Draymond is the right idea, you feel dirty for saying that; that's why teams don't wanna make those decisions.

The Dubs won since the break up

KD been on 2 super teams and lost the same time period

Max money being tied up two injured players (Durant and klay) is not good. There is no Dlo to flip

Everyone acts like Lamelo is a cocky a$$hole. He doesn’t bother anyone. He has the same temperament as Moody. Poole and Lamelo aren’t even comparable.

These narrative are just cope for picking the wrong guy

And Lamelo didn’t just walk into the freedom he has now. He was a bench player for the hornets for a while, and STILL very effective

That’s revisionist history as a lot of teams wanted no part in trading up during that draft and GS wasn’t going to get equal value for the pick
