Yayo just didn’t have the skill nor the charisma to fully carry a major label solo album.Yep, they were waiting for the album, and many ended up let down. When the unit was in their prime, that Free Yayo movement had everyone like, dude dropped the ball big time with that and ended up being overshadowed by everyone else. 50 was the star of the group, Banks was the super lyricist, Buck brought the southern audience with him, Yayo was mediocre post release and didn't stand out.
Banks wasn’t super charismatic but he was super lyrical in a time where people still cared about that, and was an underrated pimp/hard on hoes rapper.
Buck wasn’t super lyrical but had a lot of charisma, good energy in his rhymes, and the southern audience. I even remember people saying he was like a southern Tupac.
And 50 obviously was a superstar.
Yayo was like the worst traits of everyone. He wasn’t as lyrical as 50, let alone Banks. His wasn’t very charismatic but tried to be. He had a lot of knockoff 50 hooks (so did Buck and Banks but they could pull them off) and you just really got the feeling that he was better as a hype man on live shows or an admin guy on studio tracks.
I’m half convinced 50 and Banks wrote for him on the old Unit tapes because the fall off after he got out of jail was very noticeable.
