Did G-unit fans really think Tony yayo was a good artist during their run

Yep, they were waiting for the album, and many ended up let down. When the unit was in their prime, that Free Yayo movement had everyone like :jbhmm:, dude dropped the ball big time with that and ended up being overshadowed by everyone else. 50 was the star of the group, Banks was the super lyricist, Buck brought the southern audience with him, Yayo was mediocre post release and didn't stand out.
Yayo just didn’t have the skill nor the charisma to fully carry a major label solo album.

Banks wasn’t super charismatic but he was super lyrical in a time where people still cared about that, and was an underrated pimp/hard on hoes rapper.

Buck wasn’t super lyrical but had a lot of charisma, good energy in his rhymes, and the southern audience. I even remember people saying he was like a southern Tupac.

And 50 obviously was a superstar.

Yayo was like the worst traits of everyone. He wasn’t as lyrical as 50, let alone Banks. His wasn’t very charismatic but tried to be. He had a lot of knockoff 50 hooks (so did Buck and Banks but they could pull them off) and you just really got the feeling that he was better as a hype man on live shows or an admin guy on studio tracks.

I’m half convinced 50 and Banks wrote for him on the old Unit tapes because the fall off after he got out of jail was very noticeable.

Yayo was good in the group when they were still on.. I honestly thought he was best during the Return of the body Snatchers- Elephant in the Sand- TOS stretch.. His candence was blunt, simple and funny which was great for 8 bars (dont go 16 though).... This song I thought was perfect Yayo on it...

Honestly the mixtape run he did with Danny Brown, like Hawaian Snow, SOD and Black Friday was pretty good too

Yayo would’ve been real smart to link with a good producer and do really short releases with lots of guest spots. One producer instead of a bunch could’ve really helped him hide his weaknesses and play up his strengths

I was a huge G Unit stan back then.

I always thought he had some hot verses here and there but he clearly was the weakest link in G Unit. I copped all of the G Unit members debut album except for Yayo's. Till this day I never heard Yayo's album in full, only the singles.

I know you don't love me and we don't give a fukk about you are dope records, but they are pretty much posse cuts :heh:

And man the song in OP didn't age well at all, I kinda liked that song as a kid, but now its :scust:

I downloaded his album when it dropped. It wasn’t awful :yeshrug:

Yayo is like Jim Jones. Might have a hot song or two but honestly trash.

This might be Yayo’s best song, it was my introduction to his music on the mixtape days. Scarface version is obviously better but he did well on it.

wasnt a g-unit fan, but i liked g-unit at one point.
tony yayo used to come thru with the hype verse to really set it off on the mixtapes & such.

by the time he got out of prison, i wasnt rockin with them at all. he missed out on the glamor run, but im sure hes set for life for taking that charge.
as far as his album goes, it was weak but had a few joints.
