Ralph will always be the voice of NE so even without johnny heartbreak would've been a success because the biggest songs was mostly all him:ufdup:

Bobby is the second most important voice but was to much of a solo act to be a background singer to Ralph

Nobody really gave a fukk about johnny until my my my

But he did enhance there new mature presence with his voice & style tho

Great singer, excellent voice. But I never really rocked with him joining NE.

nikka was just kinda shoe-horned in there and I always felt he didn't quite fit. The songs they did were strong enough that it didn't matter in the end, but that nikka was a crooner in the mould of Luther Vandross. NE always had an edge and JG was soft as baby shyt.

Don't get me wrong, I love JG, debut album is an undeniable R&B classic, but he was a square peg in a round hole.

Why didn't the other 4 singles cross over?

Because with the movie New Edition for some reason has revised there critical acclaimed LP to now become there most commercial LP when it isn't true. there second LP is there most successful LP but hey i guess they want Heartbreak to be it since it is there watermark moment when they got respect.

But why the other singles didn't cross Bobby came thru and crush the buildings period and the new sounds in rnb just made Heartbreak LP sound outdated a few months after it dropped.

Ralph is talking about it.

Also they were getting killed by Bob on stage during the first half of the Heartbreak tour and with the success of Bob's campaign he was going to bounce from the tour and start his own tour but with the second leg needing Bob badly since Al B and New Edition LP's were dying out AL Haymon and Juanita Stephens made a crazy deal with Bobby to get him a lil more pay then NE and more time to his set and also he would close the show with NE doing mr. telephone man. shyt Bob even made NE change there whole stageshow they started to perform faster to keep up with what Bobby was doing.

Lol, JG was struggling, dude was august alsina out here. Putting him with NE gave him a fanbase he couldn't get on his own and opened the door to the production and songwriters he needed to take off with the adult crowd on his solo after heartbreak

Do you hear johnny voice :dahell:

HAH! This is my shyt.

This and "Tonight Is Right" by Keith Washington....that's a GOAT-level soundtrack right there (even though "Above the Rim" is THE GOAT soundtrack).

But I digress....

As has been said already, Johnny matured their sound and took them to a new plateau. He was definitely good for them. Once again, Biv with the smart decision...

Also....I do not believe that saying that Johnny matured their sound is necessarily an indictment upon Ralph. Ralph's high alto was more greatly complimented by Johnny's low baritone.
