How were the oldheads reacting?

Did yall see Martin as lesser than or did yall just see it as comedy and not think too much about it?

Very few, if any criticisms. Hard to illustrate just how popular that show was when it first came out. Also Shena was one of multiple characters he played, so it was just viewed as part of his brand of comedy.
THe oldheads then told us that Martin was channeling/paying homage to Flip Wilson's Geraldine character.

Seeing how the forum reacts to dudes who wear the dress today I'm curious if brehs were serious with that opinion back then.

Shenaenae vs Pam was a GOAT tv rivalry. Even Pam broke character and laughed a few times at the foolishness

A lot of people say Jerome or Shenaenae was the best characters Martin played on the show but I say it’s Ol Otis. Martin stayed getting his ass whooped by Ms Jerry(RIP) but her and Otis was in Love

Martin is one of my favorite sitcoms of all time, I'm talking top 3, and I hate the Shenanae character with a passion. I turn my head whenever he comes on screen lookin like Nicole.

No. Nobody bothered Martin or criticized him about it. I think this was partially due to the fact that Martin had creative control and it wasn't something execs put on him to do.
