Gang violence...
i think it's a stretch that RZA actually bit off DOOM's beat. ghost definitely bit off some older rappers, but i dont doubt grimm's statements at all. im sure DOOM talked shyt about wu at first but as his own status rose, he started working with them. success makes poeple a little less bitter.

Grimm seems like the rather cantankerous type. If I'm being honest.

I am comfortable and I love you
What DOOM did however was the extra stutter drum technique which still blows my mind to this very day.
I'm surprised that didn't become more prevalent before. It's just changing the note polyphony on the MPC to Note Off so it only plays the sound for as long as you hold the pad.

Doom and RZA are both scientists but Doom has a ton of influences that can be pointed out, far more than RZA.

DOOM & Madlib ran with RZA's Bobby Digital In Stereo & Ghost Dog sound in the 2000s, tho:lupe::ohhh:
Ghost dog in particular must have had a huge influence on jdilla and madlib in particular. Kanye too. The whole beat flip mid song thing as well (samurai showdown, done before, but theres is rza styled) and the drumless or near drumless samples. The light jazz drums when everyone in hip hop is making theres giant.

Even beats like soul power off iron flag. We all hated it. Sounds like any madlib beat post 2004.

Grimm seems like the rather cantankerous type. If I'm being honest.
Ain't that the truth

Ive never seen grimm bytch about anythung that wasnt well deserved. Grimm helped doom start his career. He financed kmd and op doomsday. He financed his own album that he used doom on. He paid for the samples. The samples are why doom is doom. Take them away. It wouldnt hit.

Those initial projects are the reason doom ever got life

Then when he starts making money he dissing his ex crew? Doom has been outted as being quite devious and fukking many so called β€œfriends” when he could. People laugh it off cause β€œsupervillain” and shyt but its not cool whatsoever because he basically stopped others from following up and took away money sources from other rappers.

That shyt some milli vanilla shyt.

That rip.
Yet that type of fake saltnpepa after the roxanne war impersonator type shyt.
should never be endorsed in hiphop ever.
Nor allowed to go unchecked.
As the last time.
in hiphop history that was excused.
Ended the ol school way of thought.
into the new school way of thought and is not allowed.
In the new school way of thought.

On the real, DOOM while he was revolutionary with the beats, flow, cadence, and birthing most artists nowadays, the fact remains that he bit off of the following:

  • KMD=De La Soul
  • The DOOM persona=Dr Octagon
  • Various gimmicks= Kool Keith
His beat making techniques are basically what Rza was doing before it became popular. Hell, Havoc did the same thing:

  • Take a drum loop
  • Take a sample loop
  • Match the BPMs
  • ???
  • Profit
What DOOM did however was the extra stutter drum technique which still blows my mind to this very day. Overall, it hurt when the guys broke up. DOOM and Grimm was like the yin and yang of styles. I remember when "The Book of Daniel" dropped and heads were like :mjcry:

While others were swearing that Grimm was riding the 50 publicity beef route. When in reality, DOOM was the one in the wrong. Grimm brought him in and gave him game at his lowest point. All for DOOM to just treat him and the MIC like weed carriers. Grimm was heavily responsible for Operation Doomsday, but he will never get that due, and it's fine because RIP to the gawd, and Grimm is still one of my favorite rappers of all time.

Such a shame they broke up and barely reconcile until it was too late.
Lotta people dont know but ben grimm stated doom straight up STANNED the cappadonna album and grimm said they bought it 3x.

In fact ive seen like 4 diff ughh mcs say that when they knew doom, he was ALWAYS playing the album. Non stop. El-p said it i know for sure as did a few others.

You can hear parts of doom style come from songs like these

These sax samples remind you of anything?

That light feel good vibe straight taken from cap and kmd from de la etc.

Theres literally proof from dooms appearance on stretch n bob 98/99. He specifically asks for cappadonna beats to freestyle on.

Heres from 97 asking for cap/rza beats exactly (97 mentality) 7:39

And in 99 hes asking for cap beats again from the album on same show.

And lets not forget ghost said doom sat next to him on a plane and let loose and said he took his whole style , the mask, etc from Ghostface verbatim. Which frames the whole grimm diss differently in retrospect; it seems doom was prolly jealous of wus success earlier on but was a big fan at same time.

The RZA is the creative GOAT of this genre. He literally would do things once then movr on and guys would copy wnd create whole styles around his techniques. Ie. Drumless , high pitvh vocals , the tiny minute chops inside 36 chambers when guys were looping, he made his own beat machines and techniques.

And im pretty sure party crasher by meth has a stutterdrum in it circa 97/98 as well.
