Lotta people dont know but ben grimm stated doom straight up STANNED the cappadonna album and grimm said they bought it 3x.

You can hear parts of doom style come from songs like these

These sax samples remind you of anything?

Theres literally proof from dooms appearance on stretch n bob 98/99. He specifically asks for cappadonna beats to freestyle on.

And lets not forget ghost said doom sat next to him on a plane and let loose and said he took his whole style , the mask, etc from Ghostface verbatim. Which frames the whole grimm diss differently in retrospect; it seems doom was prolly jealous of wus success earlier on but was a big fan at same time.

:picard:Breh RIP DOOM and all but my mans really had no identity by any means. And I'm a huge DOOM stan.

At least GRIMM from day 1 was legit.

I remember this thread on wu tang corp

I used to think it was a straight up bite, but its one of those ones where someone would have done it eventually.

Rza the same dude who put together the "Shark nikkas" clip, I doubt he bit intentionally and they're both geniuses so I can imagine he would have thought of the idea anyway without any outside ideas.

They both worked together towards the end too, so they probably had this convo themselves.
I find it HILARIOUS that Ghostface was on that Shark nikkas skit yet had preme write for him like there's audio of Ghost rapping verses Perb made years prior :russ: :snoop:

One thing I'll say Rza really made original was using vocals in sample chops.

Kanye mentioned that he got that from Rza ... leaving the dying embers of a singers note to use as a chop, Ice Water comes to mind but hes done it on many tracks. So ill.

Very well said.

I just find it weird, like dilla, people give them both credit for things they didnt even start. And rza gets so much shyt for not making beats like that anymore. Would you when everyones scoping ya styles to bite ? I woulda moved to films too and left everyone in the dust. To me its insane how well he tailored each albums beats to each guy. Those beats wouldnt have worked witht he other members. Only producer to have 20 + diff sounding albums.

Originally taken from A Wu Tang Corp discussion but

In this song by former friend/enemy of MF DOOM, MF GRIMM claims that DOOM used to think RZA bit the song "Tick, Tick" from Operation DOOMSDAY.....what song could he be talking about?

The Genius annotation says its referring to Brooklyn Babies because of how the tempo changes just like Tick Tick, but to say this is a bite, is a bit of a stretch.

[Verse 4: MF Grimm]
Doing songs with RZA? Thatโ€™s funny shyt
I remember you told me that he bit โ€œTick, Tick...โ€
You said Ghost was wack, you didnโ€™t like his style
Two-faced and three-headed, bytch, Iโ€™ll pull your file
New food poisoning, you Vomit for a while
You started some shyt, now youโ€™re sitting on a pile
Metal Fake, tin foil, walk the Green Mile
Just let it ride
right now

If nikkas held me to every opinion I gave while smoking brown weed and drinking malt liquor youโ€™d think I hated every nikka that rapped in the 90s except KRS-One.

Someone just ask RZA directly because that man is humble enough to acknowledge inspiration
Rza didnt know who doom was until like 03. The story is inside the wu meets indie record. Doom asked to work with rza first. Rza didng know he was the kmd guy.

On the real, DOOM while he was revolutionary with the beats, flow, cadence, and birthing most artists nowadays, the fact remains that he bit off of the following:

  • KMD=De La Soul
  • The DOOM persona=Dr Octagon
  • Various gimmicks= Kool Keith
His beat making techniques are basically what Rza was doing before it became popular. Hell, Havoc did the same thing:

  • Take a drum loop
  • Take a sample loop
  • Match the BPMs
  • ???
  • Profit

All this here.

KMD was always seen as the younger Brand Nubian and De La Soul, according to Puba back in the day. And DOOM's whole villain thing definitely came from what Kool Keith started in '93 with "Doctor Oc". They were all running with Bobbito at the time, but Keith's comic book villain sh*t and the Cenobites thing started way before the DOOM thing.

Keith was doing mad characters and killed off Octagon at one point acting as "Dr. Dooom". He did whole songs using the alias "Dr. Dooom". Shortly after, that's when we started seeing MF DOOM. He definitely lifted the whole thing from Keith and it took off. The sh*t with the mask was the big difference. He became the character. But Keith had it first.

Heres from 97 asking for cap beats exactly (97 mentality) 7:39

And in 99 hes asking for cap beats again from the album.

Man I love that cappadonns album. Probably my favorite of the solo joints after ob4cl and liquid swords. One of my hot takes has been that it's the best produced Wu album. I remember coming across the instrumentals in aoulseek like 12 years ago and being fukking hype. Lost it all in a hd crash though.

Well there is some proof he became Doom, way earlier than we all thought which was the 97-99 years. Im talking like he was doom way back when subroc died (after a night of acid with cage apparently, known for playing games to cross the expressway and got ran over)

Theres a cage interview from 93/94 when he was signed to columbia and he specifically says he was getting beats from โ€œdoom (kmd) and prince rakeem โ€. Talking early 95 way back when he was still keige.

Heres int name dropping doom in 95 and naming him and rza for production (woulda been so ahead of its time crazy)

So doom being a comic character kinda predates wu, but wu did all the things doom would do. Hence why he was prolly mad as grimm states in the song.

I could imagine coming with that idea and then wutang becomes biggest group in world using same exact ideas and being devastated.

Inside wu meets indie is the story of each song. Heres about doom / rza

Gotta zoom in. Doom asked rza to get on a song for mm food (woulda been crazy). Rza charged 10gs. Doom couldnt pay. Rza didnt know doom was kmd guy and didnt know who he was until until 2003-2005. So he reached back out with a track for that album he put out.

Brooklyn babies came out in 2001.
