Him, Nat, Luther, Donny and Marvin could croon with the best of them. Sam voice was raspy and smooth at the same time, his belts had the right amount of grit and clarity.


yeah I think thats why I think his voice might be the most perfect ever...

it was raspy and smooth at the same time

and he was able to transition from raspy to smooth all in the same tone it seems like....

Donny Hathaway > Cooke
I don't like to compare because they are all gawds but Donny regardless of gender, is probably the most overlooked and underrated vocalists ever. His voice is like pitch perfect. He also was a great writer and musician. Sort of like Horace Silver is in jazz. Both impactful artists who no one talks about. By the way that is Horace with Miles in my avi.
