You forgot about Joe Thomas & Brian McKnight top 5 DOA

Never was a huge Joe fan to be honest. He is obviously talented but he never really moved me like that. McKnight is one glaring omission along with Marvin. I kind of made my list off the dome, but how i forget Marvin?

That's prob Sam Cooke's SMOOTHEST song.

too smooth....he's floating on the track

I love it when he hits the high notes like at the :19 and :59 second part

To me, Sam Cooke had a potential goldmine on his label with a guy named Jimmy Outler. He had a fantastic voice which he used to covey emotion, effortlessly. Similar to Sam's voice in many ways, but raspier.

Sam was killed, the label fell apart and Jimmy was murdered by his own brother a few years later.

His voice would have been perfect for early soul music. His voice would have been Sam's match for David Ruffin's on Motown and Wilson Pickett's on Stax.

Otis Redding...

I like Otis, but he was no Sam Cooke in terms of vocals.

Had Sam Cooke been a cac, he'd be revered like Sinatra or Elvis.

Cooke was the #2 selling artist on RCA behind Elvis. This was without the skin color advantage of that time and the huge marketing machine Elvis had behind him.

Both cacs and Black people liked Sam Cooke.

It was the voice. He couldn't dance. He wasn't in movies, in print ads, etc.

Not only was Sam the GOAT soul singer, he is arguably one of the Top 10 gospel singers of all time!

That's cool, but Otis's voice had more emotion to it IMO
